Public Transportation

Air Our main transportation will be via air. According to Traveling-Tips, flying is the safest method of transportation because 2008 statistics shows over 5 million accidents occurred on the road while only 20 accidents occurred in the air. On the other hand air traveling is the fastest traveling method compare to travelling on land, rail, and water. On average commercial jets travels about 900 MPH while commercial ship, it travels only about 26.5 MPH. As a public transportation committee, our goal is to transport large amount of people in little time. We will sell out 5 millions airplane tickets to the public because according to 2014 world cup in Brazil, there were over 3.4 millions people from all over the world came to Brazil. They can buy the airplane ticket online or they can buy it directly from an airport.

These are the busiest airport in all the three cities we chose. ❏ Pearson International Airport ❏ International Airport ❏ -Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport

Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport ❏ On average, this airport transports about 42,000 passengers a day. ❏ 650 aircraft movements a day

Ottawa International Airport ❏ On average, this airport transports about 13,000 passengers a day ❏ 450 aircraft movements a day

Toronto Pearson International Airport ❏ On average, this airport transports about 114,000 passengers a day. ❏ 1,230 aircraft movements a day

Water There will be 25 public boats that are going travel along the lake by Toronto city. We will provide 25 boats so we can transport people across the water. This will help minimize the time of people having to wait for the airplane to take them from one side of the water to the other side.

Rail We will provide lots of rail public transportation because we have the longest railroad in the world. But we will mostly use Via Rail because it’s a passenger railroad and it runs in between the three cities we have chosen. Via Rail operates 68 passenger trains a day and according to 2015 statistics, this railroad transported 3.5 millions passengers.

Bikes We will spend $10 millions provide 28 thousands bikes for people to rent. There will be bike station every 13 miles away from other bike stations. Using bike to transport around the cities will help reduce global warming and traffic jam.

Bus We will use existence bus stations to transport passengers but we will upgrade the stations by adding more buses and drivers. This will cost us about $77.4 millions if we buy more buses and hire more drivers. New buses costs about $500k on average and it could cost up to $1.9 millions to hire more drivers.

Canada’s Transportation Tickets During the month of the world cup, we will sell $150 transportation tickets and that ticket will allow everyone to travel around in Canada without having to pay. The ticket will be expired in 30 days. This method of selling tickets smooth out the process of transportation because people will not have to pay every time they take a public transportation.

Speed of Transportation Base on estimation: The distance from Toronto city, to Montreal city to Ottawa city is 300 miles in average. On average it could take up to 13 hours buses to go from Toronto to Ottawa, 19 hours from Toronto to Montreal to Ottawa and 6 hours from Montreal to Ottawa. With bikes, it will be so much faster to travel around the cities because bikes does not have to stop often like buses.

Money We Will Need $10k for each pilot 150 = $1.5M $1.6k for each bus driver 300 = $480k 150 new buses = 75M Total = $85.9M
