Courtyard - Bird's Eye View Courtyard Lighting The positioning of office buildings 'B' & 'C ' at the IBM Corporate campus in Calgary's Beltline district formed a 'u-shaped' space that mandated a creative and distinctive design solution.
A sculptural landscape approach with a 'mountain meets meadow' theme inspired the design. The rundlestone constructions evoke 'geological uplift' while the opposing sinuous planter references the 'meadow'.
The courtyard is located over structure; the design effectively incorporates necesary soil volumes for the specified plants.
The design accommodates structured and informal seating and is adaptable for programmed activities.

Conceptual Redevelopment Plan and Perspective
Existing Park
In 2003 Carson • McCulloch Associates Ltd. were retained to coordinate a specialized design team in preparation of a comprehensive redevelopment plan for Calgary's oldest urban park. Of critical importance to this process was incorporating the interests and views of the many citizens and interest groups who value the park. Key planning issues that had to be addressed included historical significance, public safety and park usability in a contemporary urban context.
The resulting conceptual redevelopment plan proposed new facilities including a restaurant and concessions, market stalls, and a performance area, while at the same time preserving the original classical geometry, formal gardens and the commemorative function of the park. Total capital improvements are estimated at 6 million dollars.
