DIRECTOR’S NOTES

As a theatrical artist, I believe that theatre is not only an art form, but also an academic study. Theatre allows us to immerse entirely into what anthro- pologists can only observe or read about: behavior. It is through theatre that we can understand why people make choices that may seem “dramatic” or “outlandish”. It is through this sense of understanding that one finds that ca- thartic feeling that resonates with people, as audience members, production crew, or performers. When I was choosing the theme and songs for this show, I was looking to understand what was going on in my personal life. After the death of a close relative and a sudden break up, I was completely distraught. But through designing this show, I was able to start to comprehend what we must do when faced with the conflicts of love and loss. I attempt to highlight two points through this show: the ebb and flow of love, and the process of learning to cope with pain and hope for a better tomorrow.

Thank you, Blayne Fujita, Director
