WELCOME TO THE PIMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE/ARTS EXPRESS CO-PRODUCTION OF THE FANTASTICKS Through the collaboration of Pima Community College (PCC) and Arts Express Theatre, The Fantasticks has been creatively reimagined to be presented in this streamed format. A charming love story with memorable music, The Fantasticks is credited as the world’s longest-running musical with book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt. We are so proud of this partnership between PCC and Arts Express Theatre. This dynamic collaboration gave PCC students the important opportunity to apprentice professional actors, designers, and technicians in a well-supported environment. As you will see, this ensemble of professionals and students truly created magic onstage in this production of The Fantasticks, and the streamed format provides opportunities for additional creativity. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the value of partnership as our organizations evaluated the risks and opportunities from different angles and jointly generated solutions to adapt dynamically to the changing landscape created by the pandemic. While implementing a hybrid-model of online and in-person rehearsals with stringent safety protocols, the collaborative process led to amazing design elements in the show’s staging and beautiful heartfelt moments that can only be found when people come together to create something bigger than themselves. We set this time-honored musical in a garden. When we look at a tree, it has elements we can see, with the trunk and leaves, but then it also has elements that you can’t see, like the roots. Ultimately the tree needs both to exist. By reimagining this classic in a garden, we hope to bring a new resonance to The Fantasticks’ theme of hope and of facing the truth, before one can grow. Each crew position is vital to the success of a show and the responsibilities should be taken seriously. Sign ups are open now and will close when all the spots are filled, on a first-come, first-served basis. Being part of any production requires commitment and hard-work. I compare theater to a team-sport: EVERYONE is important and necessary. I have told the cast that Sea Urchin #3 is every bit as important as Ariel in this production. The Technical Crew is just as important as the people on the stage as well. Kansas City Repertory Theatre Announces Acclaimed Cast for The Diary of Anne Frank Jan. 29 through Feb. 21, 2016 at newly renovated Spencer Theatre Kansas City, MO (Jan. 5, 2016) – Kansas City Repertory Theatre’s Artistic Director Eric Rosen is pleased to announce the cast of The Diary of Anne Frank, directed by Marissa Wolf, KC Rep’s Director of New Works. The play, based upon Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, was originally written for the stage by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. In 1997, Wendy Kesselman published a revised version of Goodrich and Hackett’s Pulitzer Prize winning script, which integrated some of the more personal aspects of Anne Frank’s story that remained untold in the original script. Peer into the world of a family in hiding and a gifted young writer who came of age during the horrors of the Holocaust. Through Anne’s eyes, we see the prevailing hopes of a girl who – despite everything – inspired generations with her unwavering faith in humanity.     PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tuesday, January 24, 2012 CONTACT: Patrick Finlon, Marketing Director 315-443-2636 or [email protected] Non-Stop Music in Caroline, or Change by Pulitzer Prize Winner Tony Kushner and Tony Nominee Jeanine Tesori (Syracuse, NY)— Two powerhouses of the American theatre, playwright Tony Kushner (Angels in America) and composer Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie and Shrek: The Musical), join forces on a musical of startling creativity and refreshing originality (don’t be surprised when the washing machine starts to sing). A stellar cast led by Greta Oglesby delivers powerful vocals in this unconventional, through-composed musical, the recipient of six Tony nominations followed by the Olivier Award for Best Musical. The year is 1963—civil rights and Kennedy—and in the Gellman household in Lake Charles, Louisiana, eight-year-old Noah struggles with the loss of his mother, while Caroline, the family’s African American maid, struggles as a single Mom of four children. Through Caroline and Noah’s friendship, Kushner and Tesori explore thoughts on economic hardship and racial inequity that are relevant today as they were in the early 60s. Rich with humor, humanity and of course music—ranging from blues to gospel to traditional Jewish melodies—Caroline, or Change delivers a deep and uplifting message about change, in big ways and small.     Longwood University 2013 Properties Run Crew Rehearsal Period: • Attend crew watch. • Stage management will inform you of when you need to attend rehearsal. • Come to the theatre to practice your duties on your own time. Technical and Dress Rehearsals: • Attend all technical and dress rehearsals. o Sign-in sheet on the callboard. • If the properties manager comes to you in the middle of rehearsal to make an adjustment, do so to the best of your ability. o Inform your stage manager of the change. • Make any adjustments based on the notes given to you by the stage manager and properties manager. o If you receive a note that the stage manager does not know about, tell him/her. Headset: • Be courteous and respectful while on headset. o You can never be sure who is listening. • Speak clearly and quietly into the headset. o Do not breath heavily into the headset, tap on the mic, chew gum, or make other unnecessary noises. • Enunciation will help you to be heard while speaking quietly. • You should take their cues on the word “go” and, more specifically, on the “guh” sound of that word. o Do not “go” without the stage manager’s say so. • The stage manager will signify your cues by specify “properties” or “scene change” before the cue. • The stage manager will talk-through any difficult sequences of cues before they happen. • Stage management will issue a “Warning” one page ahead of the cue in question. o After hearing a “Warning” you should be preparing for the upcoming cue in whatever way necessary.

    Calvary Theatre Arts Presents TheFantasticks Book and Lyrics by Music by TOM JONES HARVEY SCHMIDT March 11 - 21, 2021 Author Biographies Composer Harvey Schmidt and lyricist Tom Jones are the legendary writing team best known for shaping the American musical landscape with their 1960 hit, The Fantasticks. After its Off-Broadway opening in May 1960, it went on to become the longest-running production in the history of the American stage and one of the most frequently produced musicals in the world. Their first Broadway show, 110 in the Shade, was revived on Broadway in a new production starring Audra MacDonald. I Do! I Do!, their two-character musical starring Mary Martin and Robert Preston, was a success on Broadway and is frequently done around the country. For several years Jones and Schmidt worked privately at their theatre workshop, concentrating on small-scale musicals in new and often untried forms. The most notable of these efforts were Celebration, which moved to Broadway, and Philemon, which won an Outer Critics Circle Award. They contributed incidental music and lyrics to the Off-Broadway play Colette starring Zoe Caldwell, then later did a full-scale musical version under the title Colette Collage. The Show Goes On, a musical revue featuring their theatre songs and starring Jones and Schmidt, was presented at the York Theatre, and Mirette, their musical based on the award-winning children's book, was premiered at the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut. In addition to an Obie Award and the 1992 Special Tony Award for The Fantasticks, Jones and Schmidt were inducted into the Broadway Hall of Fame at the Gershwin Theatre, and on May 3, 1999 their 'stars' were added to the Off-Broadway Walk of Fame outside the Lucille Lortel Theatre.

We had just wrapped the celebrated case of the Bel Canto Mob family. Donna had a rental in Fire Island. Spring hadn’t reached New York, but she liked the off season. I asked if she planned to go alone, DONNA PEARLBOTTUM I’m taking Wittgenstein and Sophocles. PAT DICKSON Those were her kittens. I looked forward to a quiet week. I’d catch up on sleep and the scotch and sodas I had missed over the last month. At 5:00 I closed the Venetian blinds. But a man with bovine eyes and a Brooks Brothers suit rushed in. SFX: Door with hanging bells opens. PAT DICKSON I showed him the closed sign. RICH LEXINGTON Please! You got to help me.
