Founded in 1986 by a group of local artists, Monroe County Civic Th eater is a 501c3 not-for-profi t community theater compa- ny whose goal is to bring quality classical theater to Monroe County and surround- ing areas while providing experience in all aspects of theater production to all interested persons, regardless of their level of ability or experience.

Th irty years later, MCCT is Bloomington’s only all-volunteer amateur community theatre. We learn and play together in About MCCT a diverse atmosphere that celebrates individual accomplish- ments and contributions no matter how big or how small. We remain devoted to providing opportunities for individ- uals — no matter what their experience or background — to know the many challenges and rewards of creating live theater.

Info audition announcements. Originally performed in in 411 BC, Ly- sistrata is a comic account of one woman’s extraordinary mission to end the . persuades the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands and lovers as a means of forcing the men to negotiate —a strategy that infl ames the battle between the sexes.

Lysistrata is notable for being an early exposé of sexual rela- tions in a male-dominated society and for it’s stance against the idea of perpetual war - themes that still resonate with today’s audience. Our production is based on the 2003 trans- lation by Sarah Ruden, which keeps the spirit of classical About the Show theater but uses modern, relatable language that keeps the play as bawdy, naughty and outrageous in spirit and perfor- mance as intended.

This production of Lysistrata is sponsored by these Bloomington businesses: Sponsors • Gypsy Hope Tarot • Oliver Winery • Naughty Dog • Zeitgeist Organics
