But as the project grew, so did the support we received from hundreds of people. Special thanks go first and foremost to Mark Rogovin, who started it all, never slowed down and already can't wait to jump into the next exhibition; and to Marjorie Benton, who made us believe that we could do anything. Both Mark and Marjorie have an ability to see unlimited potential in what others might mistake for limited resources, the resources in this case being a few people and a good idea. It is because of their extraordinary vision, drive and committment that an institution like The Peace Museum exists at all, and that an exhibition like Give Peace a Chance can be presented. Special thanks also go to Yoko Ono, whose early support helped make this exhibition a reality. Over a period of almost an entire year, Ms. Ono and her staff gave generously of their time and energy, suggesting possibilities, supplying information, and gath- ering materials. I am especially grateful to Sam Havadtoy and George Speerin for their gracious help and encouragement. Working with our initial ideas and taking them a step further, Cincinnati architects Paul Muller and Terry Brown designed the exhibit. Paul and Terry devoted thousands of hours to this project, overseeing everything from the floor plan to lighting to graphics on the wall. I am indebted to them for guiding me through many difficult decisions and for contributing their enormous talent to the design of the exhibition. Chief carpenters John Kesslering and Patrick Nelson turned the plans and sketches into walls and floors and ceilings, creating galleries as beautiful as the architects envisioned. John and Pat worked ten-hour days and supervised a crew of more than thirty volunteer carpenters and cabinet-makers, working in an un-aircon- ditioned space where temperatures sometimes rose as high as 105°. Quite simply, without their help, the exhibit could never have opened. There would have been little on the walls when the exhibit opened had it not been for the help I received from curatorial assistants Ruth Barrett and John Nawn. I could list hundreds of adjectives and still not even come close to describing how hard they worked and how much I came to depend on them. They were creative in the pursuit of even the strangest leads, calm under pressure, and organized to the last. In short, they never let me down. Special thanks also go to Kerry Cochrane for her skilled research and fine writing, for seeing exactly what was needed and producing it; to Susan O'Brien for taking a leave of absence from her advertis- ing agency and working full-time for us on publicity and promo- tions; to Sharon Queen for coordinating the volunteer program; Martin Moy for managing the museum store; to Sidney Schon- berger, Charles Thomas, Paul Nebenzahl and Paul Murphy, for somehow managing to make a very little go a very long way; to Jennifer Hill, Mary Anne Wolff, Lu Ann Lewandowski, Charlotte Kaufman and Eric Krystall for special projects; and to our board of directors for their support. Consultant Terri Hemmert of WXRT Radio became an honor- ary Peace Museum staffer during the last six months of prepara- tions, working as long and as hard as we did, and jumping into new projects with the kind of enthusiasm and energy that helped keep everyone going. Terri contributed to many aspects of the exhibi- tion, helping with research, acquisitions, promotion and special events. Equally helpful was consultant Dottie Jeffries, museum store manager at The Museum of Science and Industry. Dottie steered us through what was for us uncharted territory, advising us on special merchandising and the ins-and-outs of setting up a museum store. Expert advice and long hours of labor were also provided by audio-visual specialist John Boesche, who produced a fantastic slide show for the rock room; and sound engineer Mark Guncheon, who filled the galleries with music. I would also like to extend a special thank-you to Jann S. Wenner, editor and publisher of Rolling Stone. Jann provided not only valuable advice at the early stages of planning, he also pro- vided valuable materials for the exhibition itself. He and assistant Mary McDonald helped us find our way through the maze of the music industry, putting us in touch with the right people at the right places. Also helpful were Paul and Robin Caruso at The Museum of Rock Art in Hollywood.
