If you haven’t already, take time to help your 20 loved ones understand the medical quality of life that you want so they can confi dently make decisions for you should the situation ever arise. Advance care planning is the process of talking about what kind of care you want in critical medical situations. This is done by young and old, but diff ers slightly based on the phase of your life. If you are healthy and independent, advance care planning focuses on naming a healthcare surrogate to speak for you if you become unable to do so. If desired, you can document specifi c preferences about certain end-of-life care issues. Individuals who have advanced chronic disease, who live in nursing homes or who are frail and elderly need to do this but can also benefi t from the additional step of completing a Pennsylvania Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) form. This additional voluntary step ensures that you receive medical treatment according to your wishes. “Some people feel very strongly about medical interventions used to sustain life. Health Center Women’s Golf dEcEMBER 2013 | Tournament. This extraordinary ladies only golf tournament raised more than $45,000 to enhance services at Susquehanna Health’s Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center.

Over the years, more than $500,000 has been raised for FocuSFoundation the Center by this event. Along with the financial support of the women who play, contributions 27 and sponsorships are received from individuals, local businesses and community groups.

The Breast Health Center plans to acquire a 3-D mammography machine called Tomosynthesis. This latest technology will enhance the ability to detect invasive breast cancer by 40 percent. Proceeds from the prior tournaments assisted with the purchases of a specimen radiograph unit, ultrasound systems, biopsy devices and additional imaging equipment. These tools help breast physicians and radiologists make the most accurate breast disease diagnoses while providing appropriate treatment for the best outcomes.
