Eduardo Saverin (born March 19, 1982 in São Paulo, Brazil)[2] is a Brazilian-American entrepreneur and co-founder of , along with and others.[3] He owns a 5% share of Facebook[4] , worth $2.5 billion USD as of January 4, 2011.[5]

Personal life Eduardo Saverin was born in São Paulo, Brazil, to a wealthy Brazilian Jewish family,[6] and was raised in Miami, Florida. Eduardo's father was a Brazilian industrialist working in export, clothing, shipping and real estate.[7] Eduardo attended Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami, and went on to Harvard University, where he was a member of the Phoenix S.K. Club, and president of the Harvard Investment Association. While an undergraduate at Harvard, Saverin invested $300,000 of his own money in the oil industry.[7] [8] In 2006, Saverin graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a B.A. in Economics. He is currently believed to be living in .[9]

Facebook Saverin met Mark Zuckerberg during his freshman year and later co-founded Facebook with him during his sophomore year, assuming the role of CFO and business manager.[10] Due to internal conflicts and differences of opinion with Zuckerberg over the following summer, when Saverin was living in New York (where he worked briefly as an intern at Lehman Brothers), Saverin drifted away from what was then known as "thefacebook", a fast-growing Silicon Valley start-up. After outside investors—principally venture capitalists and PayPal co-founder and co-founder —took control of the start-up's finances and capital needs and backed Zuckerberg as its CEO, Saverin's roles diminished and his influence evaporated. Saverin sued Zuckerberg and Facebook in April 2005, after Zuckerberg dropped Saverin's percentage ownership share of Facebook from 34% to around 0.03%.[11] Saverin also won his claim to label himself as a co-founder of Facebook.[12]

Depictions in media In the film , Eduardo Saverin is played by actor . The film depicts the relationship between him and Mark Zuckerberg from the creation of Facebook to Saverin taking legal action against Zuckerberg. The film alleges that the deterioration of their friendship stems from Zuckerberg's jealousy of Saverin getting into The Phoenix - S K Club at Harvard. The Social Network was released on October 1, 2010.[13]
