not so easily read as all that. The word "girls" that you found so objectionable in my letter was only used once throughout the article. To call me a sexist because of a single word in a whole paragraph full of satire and irony is a ludicrous proposition. I hope you will continue your studies in philosophy and psychology, and learn a little more about the inductive method. Until then, do not take it upon yourself to dismiss parts of my letter as "slips." The sentence you must have found objectionable (for that is the only one that contains the word girls) reads as follows: "And I'm sure if you look closely, girls, you will find many men about that do not break into feverish sweating and idiotic cackling at the prospect of finding a woman alone in a parking lot." The whole sentence reeks of satire and irony, drawing attention to the ridiculous attitude presented a few weeks ago: that all men are rapists, mentally or otherwise. And the pronoun "girls" (implying immature female) was used only to heighten the satirical effect. The condescending tone created by the pronoun implies that those of us who think of all men as rapists are in need of THE % WmM\ SlC^b 0? SNSKv instruction. Old balls. Seriously. Those dusty spheres were given most of the credit by Fay after the junior righthander tossed a four-bitter at the hapless Lions. "I like pitching in the second game of a doubleheader because the balls are older and you can do more with them," said the knuckle-curve specialist. "I didn't even walk anyone — probably for the first time in my life." Fay's four-hit, eight-strikeout performance upped the Blue Devils' overall record to 3-0, and nearly overshadowed . the effort of fellow junior Bill Zempolich, whose five-hitter helped stop the Lions in the opener, 7-2. Both Fay and Zempolich are now 1-0 in the young season with identical 1.29 earned run averages. Fay is right on track following last year's 7-2, 2.94 composite while Zempolich appears to have rebounded from last season's mediocre 1-1, 7.73 mark. By Robert Margolis Alan Parker's Shoot The Moon covers no subjects profoundly new to the cinema. Scores of divorce stories have been made before with varying results. Therefore, Shoot The Moon is not exemplary as much for what it says as for how it says it. Realistically, the plot of the film involves little development. The film opens on the eve of the split and there is no discernible final reconciliation. As far as the future of the characters is concerned, director Parker and scriptwriter Bo Goldman have left things pretty much in the air. On the surface, the film can be disappointing, but a watchful eye can detect the elusive elements that add up to brilliance. The key word here is subtlety.
