Were the Monkeys. The Ramones were a force necessary to this universe. Too Tough to Die? The reason this happens is because I believe that rock-n-roll is pure joy and that only the warmest souls who have a firm grasp on the concept that Shit Happens can create it. I like the Ramones and I have a shit-ton of respect for what they accomplished in breaking new ground and really establishing the punk scene in the US, but I just don't know a lot of their stuff beyond the 8 or 10 big songs. Though The Ramones were never really commercially viable, they were a huge influence on literally hundreds or perhaps thousands of bands to come along in their wake. I've never actually witnessed brothers behaving as brothers before. But, alas, all is forgiven now that there's a book around to vindicate the author and clear his name of all the evil rumors his brother had been spreading I Slept with Joey Ramone: A Punk Rock Family Memoir their tumultuous relationship. Mickey Leigh. The Old Man and the Seafood. It also reveals without exploiting the mental illness Joey Ramone battled. While the music lives on for new generations to discover, I Slept with Joey Ramone is the enduring portrait of a man who struggled to find his voice and of the brother who loved him. -

Christian Ricci Behind the Scenes in New York – Fall 2020 Assignment #1 October 05, 2020 Opened in 1973 on Bowery in Manhattan’s East Village, CBGB was a bar and music venue which features prominently in the history of American punk rock, New Wave and Hardcore music genres. The club’s owner, Hilly Kristal, was always involved with music and musicians, having worked as a manager at the legendary jazz club Village Vanguard booking acts like Miles Davis. When CBGB first opened its doors in the early seventies the venue featured mostly country, blue grass, and blues acts (thus CBGB) before transitioning over to punk rock acts later in the decade. Many well know performers of the punk rock era received their start and earliest exposure at the club, including the Ramones, Patti Smith, Television, Blondie, and Joan Jett. During the New Wave era, performers like Elvis Costello, Talking Heads and even early performances from the Police graced the stage in the now legendary venue. Located at 315 Bowery, which is situated near the northern section of Bowery before it splits into 3rd and 4th Avenues at Cooper square, the original building on the site was constructed in 1878 and was used as a tenement house for 10 families with a shop (liquor store) on the ground floor. In 1934, 315 and 313 were combined into one building and the façade was redesigned and constructed in the Art Deco style, as documented in the 1940 tax photo. At that time, the building was occupied by the Palace Hotel with a ground floor saloon. -

I grew up an hour away from Manhattan and decades away from the mid-seventies, and there was a time when these circumstances seemed the greatest tragedy of my life. That was when I spent all of my money on records and CDs, when I spent days listening to Patti Smith and Richard Hell, when there was a thrilling sense of danger in the band names “Dead Boys” and “Sex Pistols.” Punk was about disaffection, but I loved it with unfettered and unironic enthusiasm. Every band had something distinctive to listen to, and every band was amazing for it. It was during this manic stage of exploration that I discovered the Dictators, a short-lived group of Noo Yawk punks who cheerfully endorsed hamburgers, cheesy pop hits, and the suburban lifestyle. Fourteen years after they broke up, I was born, and fourteen years after that I discovered and soon fell in love with their debut album, “Go Girl Crazy.” I had purchased the record on vinyl during my freshman year, which meant I could only listen to it in my family’s living room, where my mother’s record player was permanently installed. -

I hope you're available to swing by the Newseum this evening as the National Park Trust honors Senator Martin Heinrich (June 13th at 6:30 PM). As you know, I'm on the NPT board and our mission is very important to me - protecting high priority lands for the National Park Service and creating future park stewards, with a special emphasis on children from under-served communities. Each year we host the Bruce F. Vento Public Service Award event to honor an outstanding elected official and conservationist and celebrate NPT's accomplishments. The invitation is below and attached. The short program will give you a chance to hear about the important and effective projects we have underway and the highlight of the evening is hearing directly from some over the under-served children in our programs. The event includes a reception with the 30-minute formal program starting at 7:00 PM. Best regards, Chuck Sierra Club v. EPA 18cv3472 NDCA Tier 1 ED_002061_00180418-00001 Sierra Club v.
