  • Corporate Reputation and Competitiveness
Corporate Reputation and Competitiveness Reputation is at the heart of a company’s success. This unique book, from four of the world leaders in reputation research, reveals the very latest thinking about how organ- izations can improve, whether they are in the public, commercial or not-for-profit sector. The philosophy is to match the external (customer) perception of the organization and what they value, to the internal (customer-facing employee) perception and their organ- izational values. Only when these are ‘harmonized’ can the firm be truly competitive. Corporate Reputation and Competitiveness takes the subject of Reputation Management further than any previous text. It covers some familiar ground: dealing with the media, crisis management, the use of logos and other aspects of corporate identity. But it also argues for Reputation Management to be seen as a way of managing the long-term strat- egy of an organization. It presents a new approach to measuring reputation, one that relies on surveying customers and employees on their view of the corporate character. It carries detailed results of studies showing the interaction of customer–employee per- spectives and how and why customer views influence commercial performance. The book introduces the Corporate Reputation Chain – the potential to link staff and customer satisfaction via the organization’s reputation, and to the Corporate Personality Scale – a way of measuring what customers and staff feel about the organization itself. Detailed case studies from a variety of different companies and sectors reveal the prac- tice of Reputation Management. Corporate Reputation and Competitiveness is intended to be useful to both managers and students on postgraduate courses.

In the second half of the 1970s, Brian Eno, Larry Fast, Mickey Hart, Stomu Yamashta and many other musicians blurred the lines between rock and avantgarde. Brian Eno (34), ex-keyboardist for Roxy Music, changed the course of rock music at least three times. The experiment of fusing pop and electronics on Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy (sep 1974 - nov 1974) changed the very notion of what a "pop song" is. Eno took cheap melodies (the kind that are used at the music-hall, on television commercials, by nursery rhymes) and added a strong rhythmic base and counterpoint of synthesizer. The result was similar to the novelty numbers and the "bubblegum" music of the early 1960s, but it had the charisma of sheer post-modernist genius. Eno had invented meta-pop music: avantgarde music that employs elements of pop music. He continued the experiment on Another Green World (aug 1975 - sep 1975), but then changed its perspective on Before And After Science (? 1977 - dec 1977). Here Eno's catchy ditties acquired a sinister quality.

SRO Artists SRO The Johnny Clegg Band Opening Act Guitar, Vocals Jesse Clegg The Johnny Clegg Band Guitar, Vocals, Concertina Johnny Clegg Guitar, Musical Director Andy Innes Keyboard, Sax, Vocals Brendan Ross Percussion Barry Van Zyl Bass, Vocals Trevor Donjeany Percussion Tlale Makhene PROGRAM There will be an intermission. Sunday, April 3 @ 7 PM Zellerbach Theatre Part of the African Roots, American Voices series. 15/16 Season 45 ABOUT THE ARTISTS Johnny Clegg is one of South Africa’s most celebrated sons. He is a singer, songwriter, dancer, anthropologist and musical activist whose infectious crossover music, a vibrant blend of Western pop and African Zulu rhythms, has exploded onto the international scene and broken through all the barriers in his own country. In France, where he enjoys a massive following, he is fondly called Le Zulu Blanc – the white Zulu. Over three decades, Clegg has sold over five million albums of his brand of crossover music worldwide. He has wowed vast audiences with his audacious live shows and won a number of national and international awards for his music and his outspoken views on apartheid, perspectives on migrant workers in South Africa and the general situation in the world today. Clegg’s history is as bold, colorful and dashing as the rainbow country which he has called home for more than 40 years. Clegg was born in Bacup, near Rochdale, England, in 1953, but was brought up in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Between his mother (a cabaret and jazz singer) and his step-father (a crime reporter who took him into the townships at an early age), Clegg was exposed to a broader cultural perspective than that available to his peers.

  • Joni Mitchell," 1966-74
"All Pink and Clean and Full of Wonder?" Gendering "Joni Mitchell," 1966-74 Stuart Henderson Just before our love got lost you said: "I am as constant as a northern star." And I said: "Constantly in the darkness - Where 5 that at? Ifyou want me I'll be in the bar. " - "A Case of You," 1971 Joni Mitchell has always been difficult to categorize. A folksinger, a poet, a wife, a Canadian, a mother, a party girl, a rock star, a hermit, a jazz singer, a hippie, a painter: any or all of these descriptions could apply at any given time. Moreover, her musicianship, at once reminiscent of jazz, folk, blues, rock 'n' roll, even torch songs, has never lent itself to easy categorization. Through each successive stage of her career, her songwriting has grown ever more sincere and ever less predictable; she has, at every turn, re-figured her public persona, belied expectations, confounded those fans and critics who thought they knew who she was. And it has always been precisely here, between observers' expec- tations and her performance, that we find contested terrain. At stake in the late 1960s and early 1970s was the central concern for both the artist and her audience that "Joni Mitchell" was a stable identity which could be categorized, recognized, and understood. What came across as insta- bility to her fans and observers was born of Mitchell's view that the honest reflection of growth and transformation is the basic necessity of artistic expres- sion. As she explained in 1979: You have two options.
