12 www.morganstown.org.uk is…A photo archive for our local community News from Bryn Deri PTA Bryn Deri PTA have been coming up with ideas to fundraise for the school during this Covid-19 era. Our Halloween disco and Christmas Fayre are unable to go ahead this year, which are normally two of our biggest fundraisers, so we are having to be creative! Despite Coronavirus making things a bit more challenging this year, we were still able to organise a Rags2Riches collection with socially distanced bag drop-offs at the school. We raised a fantastic £201.60 so it was worth the extra work to keep this going. The PTA feels it is important to support those who are helping us get through the pandemic. Bryn Deri PTA have therefore established a Rainbow Fund, with proceeds being split equally between Bryn Deri Primary School and an NHS charity. Our first fundraising event for the Rainbow Fund was our Rainbow Day, held on Thursday 22 October. For a small donation, pupils were invited to wear a colourful top to school. We wanted to keep the day simple for parents but also fun for kids. We raised an amazing £646.50, which will be split between the school and this event’s charity, the Noah’s Ark Children’s Charity. We are incredibly proud of the school community for contributing to this day. A tradition that we inherited from our ancient past. Many people now believe that the winter solstice, the return of the light, was the most important of the Festivals celebrated at Stonehenge. But other religions celebrate it at different times. This year, to show the multicultural nature of R&M, Windsor Gardens was decorated for Diwali by children from The Green. Diwali is a Festival celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains to welcome a new beginning and the return of the light. The children had been busy beavering away to make very colourful and beautiful candle holders for the lights. Huge thank you to all involved and especially to our Community Councillor Vina Patel for making this happen. We don’t know if Halloween is a Festival of light or a Festival of darkness. But it was magical to see Windsor Gardens lit up with pumpkin heads. Thanks to Evie, Frances, Morgan, Rhys, Menna, William, Thomas, Sofia, Rocco and Sebastian for all their hard work.
