GSS-80 Custom Rifle Seminar – Metalsmithing 1.0 Unit

I. Catalog Description A course designed to provide the student with an overview of advanced state of the art in design, technique and tools for the custom rifle . Instruction includes tools and equipment and their use. The course includes common metal customizing and modifications.

Recommended Preparation: Successful completion of ENGL105 or equivalent assessment placement.

III. Course Objectives A. Course Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course the student will be able to: Describe the state of the art in design, technique and tools for the custom rifle metalsmithing as presented by the selected instructor.

B. Course Objectives Upon completion of this course the student will be able to: 1. Identify common metalsmithing concepts. 2. Demonstrate proper of rifle receiver. 3. Correctly polish bolt raceways and magazine rails.

V. Assignments A. Appropriate Readings Student will be assigned readings from various instructor handouts and trade journals. B. Written Assignments The student will be required to keep a journal of notes. C. Expected Outside Assignments See 'A' and 'B' above. D. Specific Assignments that Demonstrate Critical Thinking Students will demonstrate critical thinking by fabricating tools used to complete class assignments.

VI. Methods of Evaluation Students will be evaluated on class participation and quality of finished projects.
