The fortunes and histories of the Iberian Peninsula, Northern , and the Canary Islands have been intertwined for centuries. On a sea expedition from the Canaries to Morocco, , and Portugal, discover how these vastly different cultures have merged and diverged over centuries.

The Museum Travel Alliance (MTA) provides museums with the opportunity to offer their members and patrons high-end educational travel programming. Trips are available exclusively through MTA member museums and cultural institutions. On this journey, relax in the congenial company of members of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Royal Foundation, and the alumni associations of Miss Porter’s School, Harvard, and Johns Hopkins. Lecturers include a curator of Latin American art from The Met, a well- known horticulturist and author, and a professor of environmental studies at Harvard.

On , admire fine Spanish Colonial buildings and discuss their preservation with an expert. Then board Sea Spirit to sail to , to discover the Bauhaus homes of and enjoy a choir performance. In , explore the volcanic park of Timanfaya. On Portuguese , wander the streets of historic and enjoy a glass of the island’s eponymous . In Morocco, discover the home of the last pasha of Marrakesh and meet with the director of the Jewish Museum in Casablanca. Sail through the Strait of to land on the rock itself. Visit St. Michael’s Cave, the Gibraltar Museum, and the nature reserve that is home to the region’s tailless monkeys.

From Spain’s Cádiz, journey to , with its spectacular Spanish-Moorish architecture, and visit an underground church adorned with Goya frescoes. Once ashore in Portugal, visit Sagres and Lagos before disembarking in . An optional postlude in Lisbon is available.
