Flagging off of New Train for Kolkata Metro

Shri. A.K. Mital, Chairman, Railway Board, flagged off the New Train for Kolkata Metro today at ICF in the presence of Shri. S. Mani, General Manager, ICF other Senior Officials of ICF.

The cost of one Metro train set is about Rs.40 Crores, which is half the cost of any other imported Metro Train. The coaches are built on stainless steel body. The gangways are much wider and almost look as continuous passage between coaches without any restriction. Other features such as full air conditioning of the train, Electrically operated Automatic sliding doors with manual override for emergency, Passenger talk-back facility, LCD display for Passenger Information system, LED Destination board, are retained as in the earlier design. Emergency egress system (evacuation of passengers in case of non-function of automatic doors) from outside the coach is an addition in this new train.

He also inspected the luxurious Vistadome tourist Coach for IRCTC and Diesel Electric Tower Car (DETC - Over Head Equipment maintenance). He visited the LHB unit and launched the “Technology switchover project”. Later, he had a meeting with Senior Officers of ICF on the future projects of ICF. He also met Staff representatives and heard their needs.

Chairman, Railway Board declared cash award of Rs. 1,00,000/- to ICF in appreciation of the excellent work of ICF.
