April 2nd,2020 Topic:- Important Personality What is the news? Unfortunate passing away of Hazuri Ragi Padma Shri Bhai Nirmal Singh Ji. About Bhai Nirmal Singh Ji:- Bhai Nirmal Singh Khalsa (12 April 1952 – 2 April 2020) was an Indian Sikh Hazoori Ragi of Darbar Sahib in Punjab, India. Born in Village Jand Wala Bhime Shah, Distt. Ferozepur, Punjab, he obtained a diploma in Gurmat sangeet from the Shaheed Missionary College, Amritsar in 1976. He served as a music teacher in Gurmat College, Rishikesh, in 1977 and in Shaheed Sikh Missionary College, Sant Baba Fateh Singh, Sant Channan Singh, Budha Johar, Ganga Nagar, Rajasthan, in 1978. From 1979, he started serving as ‘Hazoori Raagi’, at Sach Khand Sri Harmandir Sahib. He has also performed Kirtan at all the five Takhts, historical Gurdwaras in India and 71 other countries. He is one of the finest raagis having knowledge of all the 31 Raags in Gurbani of Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. For his services in the field of “arts”, he was awarded the Padma Shri award(India’s fourth-highest civilian award) by the government of India in 2009. As the state government prepares for its biggest annual exercise of procuring wheat amid the curfew, it faces a serious challenge of shortage of the migrant labour. The state is expecting to produce 180-185 lakh metric tonnes (lmt) of wheat this year. Of this, 135 it is expected to reach mandis after the harvesting of the crop begins in a fortnight. -

Trade, tourism and tech key: PM Modi tells envoys Source: Hindustan Times (Link) Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants India’s envoys to foreign nations to focus more on international trade which, he believes, is an intrinsic and crucial part of the country’s diplomatic outreach. In a meeting with his ministers and bureaucrats earlier this month, the Prime Minister also spoke about how diplomats posted in foreign countries can try to boost inflow of tourists and technology from foreign shores to the country. Modi’s focus on the three Ts, trade tourism and technology comes at a time when New Delhi has drastically improved its ease of doing business and opened up more avenues for Foreign Direct Investments (FDI). The government, which is also dealing with an economic slowdown , is keen to attract investment to push growth. 2. Janak Raj to succeed Michael Patra at RBI's monetary policy department Source: Business Standard (Link) The Reserve Bank of India has appointed Janak Raj, principal advisor to the monetary policy department, as executive director. He succeeds Michael Patra effective January 24. With this, the RBI will have 12 EDs, its full strength. Patra will be part of the six-member monetary policy committee (MPC) as a deputy governor, and so will be Raj as an ED of the department. Raj would be part of MPC as an internal RBI member. However, Raj also retires in a few months, and the RBI is also fast-tracking promotions of two chief general managers in the bank. -

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO:532 ANSWERED ON:19.07.2017 CCTV Cameras Mahto Dr. Banshilal;Rathore Shri Hariom Singh Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) the number of CCTV cameras installed at railway stations during the last three years and the current year, zone and station-wise; (b) the number of CCTV cameras likely to be installed by the Railways during the next financial year along with the funds allocated for the same; (c) whether the crime rate at railway stations had dropped during the last three years and if so, the details thereof; (d) whether in view of providing adequate security to passengers including women passengers and checking theft cases, the Government proposes to install CCTV cameras in trains also and if so, the details thereof; and (e) the number of trains in which CCTV cameras have already been installed? Answer MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS (SHRI RAJEN GOHAIN) (a): Details of the number of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed at railway stations during the last three years and the current year are appended. (b): It has been decided to provide nearly 35,000 cameras with allocation of fund to the tune of ?500 crore under Nirbhaya Fund over 983 railway stations in next two years. ...2/- -2- (c): The crime rate at railway stations over Indian Railways has not shown declining trend during the last three years. Current Affairs=10-04-2020 HRD Ministry Launches Week-long ‘Bharat Padhe Online’ Campaign to invite ideas for improving online education ecosystem The Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has launched a week long campaign titled ‘Bharat Padhe Online’ for crowd sourcing of ideas for improving online education ecosystem of India. Under the campaign any resident of the country can share suggestions/solutions directly with HRD Ministry to overcome constraints of online education. The educators across the country can also come forward to contribute with their expertise and experience in the field of education. The ideas can be shared till 16th April 2020 on [email protected] and also on twitter by using #BharatPadheOnline. While using Twitter one must tag @HRDMinistry and @DrRPNishank so that ideas can be notified to the Ministry. Delhi Government Launches “Operation SHIELD” for Containment of COVID- 19 On 9 April 2020, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced the launch of an initiative called “Operation SHIELD” in the capital city to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
