Matt is the superintendent of Lakota Local Schools. He has spent the last 23 years serving communities as an educator in the roles of superintendent (12), director of student services and instruction (1), principal (5), and teacher (5). Larry COX // HEAD COACH Larry became Lakota West’s head coach when the school was established in 1997. Before coming to West, Cox had spent two years (1995-96) as the head coach at Bellbrook High School where he was named the Southwest Buckeye Conference Coach Of Year in 1995. Cox has led twelve of his West teams to top 10 rankings in the Cincinnati Metro area, and has taken fi ve of these teams (2004, 2006, 2009, 2013 & 2014) to the State playoffs. The 2004 playoff berth was the fi rst for a Lakota school after the district split into East and West in 1997. For his efforts in 2004, Cox was selected by his peers as Co-South West Ohio Coach Of The Year. In 2009, he was selected to coach in the Under Armour All-American Bowl. In 2013 he coached in the US Marines Semper Fidelis Bowl and was awarded a United States Marine Corp Coach of the Year distinction. His 2014 team became the fi rst in Lakota district history to reach the regional fi nals (fi nal 8). Cox and his coaching staff have seen ninety of their former Firebird charges go on to play in college, twenty at the NCAA D-1 FBS level. Six of his players have earned high school All-American status. Cox played for Hamilton Badin High School teams that reached the state fi nals in 1980 and state quarter fi nals in 1981. He earned All Southwest Ohio recognition in ‘81. Before taking his fi rst head coaching assignment at Bellbrook, Cox had been the Freshman coach for three years at his alma mater, Hamilton Badin, and had also served as an assistant at Hamilton High School. Chris Drumm // HEAD COACH Chris Drumm took over the cross country program in 2015 after long-time head coach Craig Myers stepped down after 13 seasons. Drumm joined the cross country staff in 2004, but has had a wide range of coaching experiences dating back to 1990. He coached track and cross country at Hopewell junior school from 1990 to 1998. Other assignments at Hopewell included football and girls . Drumm’s previous high school experience was as the girls junior varsity basketball coach during the 2002-2003 season at Apalache high school, Winder, Georgia. Drumm was a multi-sport athlete at Benjamin Logan high school in Ohio where he earned four varsity letters in cross country. Drumm teaches mathematics at Lakota West high school.

Tracey KORNAU // HEAD COACH DATE OPPONENT LOCATION TIME Coach Tracey Kornau has the rare distinction of having played on an Ohio Division 1 State Aug 22 McAuley High School Home 6:00 PM Championship team and having coached one. As a high school student Tracey (Thompson) was the setter for the Seton teams who were state runner-ups in 1983 and state champions in 1984. She was an All-State fi rst team selectee in 1984 and the City Player of the Year. After completing Aug 24 St. Ursula Academy - Cincinnati Home 6:00 PM her athletic career with the Seton Saints, where she lettered in basketball and track, as well as volleyball, she was awarded a volleyball athletic grant in aid by West Virginia University. Thompson played volleyball for four seasons for West Virginia serving as captain of the Mountaineers 1988 Aug 29 Mount Notre Dame High School Away 6:30 PM team. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelors degree in Secondary Education/ Physical Education in 1990 having been selected to four all-conference academic awards. At the time of Aug 31 Springboro High School Home 6:00 PM her graduation she held the West Virginia records for most sets in both a season (1251) and a career (3359), marks that still stand as the 2nd and 3rd highest in Mountaineer history. She was hired as the head coach at her high school alma mater in 1990 and immediately guided the Seton Saints to a 22-5 record and regional runner-up honors Sep 7 Hamilton High School (Ohio) Home 6:00 PM (fi nal 8 in state). The following year coach Kornau moved to Lakota where her teams enjoyed continued success. The highlight being the 1994 season which saw the Thunderbirds win their second consecutive GMC championship, be named #1 team in Sep 12 Mason City Schools Home 6:00 PM Cincinnati, and go on to win the State Championship. That team fi nished the season 26-1. Coach Kornau was recognized for her efforts by the Greater Miami Conference as their coach of the year, by the Cincinnati Enquirer as the City coach of the year, and presented with the State Coaches Association’s coach of the year award. While at Lakota, Coach Kornau earned a Masters Sep 14 Princeton High School Away 6:00 PM degree in Educational Administration from Xavier University. In 1997 coach Kornau became the fi rst head coach of the Lakota West girls volleyball team and immediately led them to a GMC championship. Her teams have since added championships in Sep 16 Loveland Junior/Senior High School Away 10:00 AM 2005,2006, 2009, and 2010. In 2013, she reached the 400 career win milestone. Less than 30 volleyball coaches in the state of Ohio have ever reached the milestone. In the spring of 1999 Kornau became the fi rst head coach of the Lakota West boys team, a position she held for two years. He has since led the Firebirds to Greater Miami Conference Championships in 2002 and 2009. Linda became the Lakota West head coach in 2011 following eight seasons as the Lakota East DATE OPPONENT LOCATION junior varsity coach. Coffey has been involved in golf in a variety of ways other than as a coach. Rick COOPER // HEAD COACH DATE OPPONENT LOCATION TIME Rick Cooper became the Lakota West head coach in 2004. The position had been vacated by Aug 19 Centerville High School Home 7:00 PM the unexpected death of his mentor, Steve Cummins the previous year*. Shortly after Cummins passing Cooper resigned as the Sycamore high school head coach, a position he had held for three years, and returned to take leadership of the program that he had helped Cummins build. Aug 24 Withrow High School Home 7:00 PM Since his return the Firebirds have played in six district tournament fi nals winning three. His 2004 team went on to win the regional championship. In 2011 Cooper’s Firebirds won a GMC championship and he was named conference coach of the year. Cooper had joined Cummin’s staff Aug 26 Worthington Kilbourne High School Away 3:00 PM at Lakota in 1992 as the junior varsity coach and served in that capacity for four years. He had an outstanding 75.1% winning percentage as the Junior Varsity coach capping that phase of his Aug 29 Moeller High School Away 6:00 PM career with a 12-1-2 record in 1995. Cooper was then promoted to varsity assistant coach. He was Cummin’s chief assistant with the 1996 Lakota Greater Miami Conference championship team, the 1997 Lakota West GMC Championship team, and the 2000 Lakota West team which made a run to the State Final Four. Cooper left Lakota West Sep 5 Turpin High School Home 7:00 PM in 2001 to accept the varsity head coaching position offered by his high school alma mater, Sycamore. The Aviators, coming off a down year in 2000, struggled to a 6-9-1 record and a tie for seventh in the GMC in Coopers fi rst season at the helm. Sep 7 Hamilton High School (Ohio) - Home 7:00 PM By his third season however, Cooper had piloted the Aviators up to a tie for third in the GMC and a very respectable 11-4-4 overall record. Cooper played soccer for four season at Sycamore high school, earning three varsity letters. After graduating from Sycamore in 1987 he earned a degree in education at Ball State University. While there he played four seasons on the Sep 9 St. Xavier High School Home 7:00 PM college’s club team. In his last two club seasons he doubled as both head coach and player. In his student teaching year at Ball State he began his high school coaching career serving as the varsity assistant for North Central High school. After graduation Sep 12 Mason City Schools Home 7:00 PM from Ball State in 1991, Cooper served as a boys coach for the Fairfi eld soccer club. His past club coaching activities have also included work with both the Sycamore and Club Ohio Soccer clubs. Cooper began teaching in the Lakota school district in the fall of 1992. Rosi FERRALL // HEAD COACH VARSITY SCHEDULE

Rosi joined the Lakota West girls tennis coaching staff as the junior varsity coach in 2013. She DATE OPPONENT LOCATION TIME began her coaching career at Lakota’s Ridge Junior High. In her three season’s at Ridge, 2003- 2005, her teams met with great success twice winning GMC junior championships and once Aug 14 Miamisburg High School Away 4:00 PM winning the GMC runner-up trophy. Several of the players she coached at Ridge went on to letter on Firebird high school varsity teams. Among those players was Ashleigh Witte (Lakota West class Aug 16 Mount Notre Dame High School Home 4:00 PM of 2010), a state singles qualifi er, a state doubles champion, and a four time GMC high school Aug 17 Indian Hill High School Home 4:00 PM player of the year. Prior to coaching Ferrall played for over 30 years on teams representing the Queen City Racquet club in inter club competitions. In this period she also won four consecutive Aug 21 Wyoming High School Home 4:00 PM United States Tennis Association (USTA) sanctioned Cincinnati district tournaments, while competing in USTA 4.5 and 5.0 skill level divisions. Megan STRAUB // HEAD COACH Megan (Darland) Straub is a 2002 graduate of Lakota West HS. She was a varsity cheerleader and a competitive gymnast for 11 years. After graduating from Lakota West, she went on to be a cheerleader at University of Cincinnati (‘07). She’s been a Lakota Plains Junior High cheer coach for six years and is a class director for West Chester Academy Gymnastics. She’s married to Frank Straub, Lakota West Varsity Football assistant coach, and has two children (daughter, Parker-9, son, Mason-5).
