V Matt Rooks // VARSITY HEAD COACH Matt became West’s head coach in 2014-15 having inherited a team severely depleted by graduation. Of the 1534 points scored by the 2013-14 team, per- sonnel responsible for just 4 of those points returned for the 2014-15 campaign. Starting from scratch Rooks has since rebuilt the program with all three teams; freshman, junior varsity, and varsity posting winning records in 2015-16. The varsity squad fi nished in a tie for second in the GMC, ranked in the D-1 top ten, and posted a 15-9 record. Rook’s previous, and fi rst, head coaching op- portunity came at Wyoming H.S. When he arrived at Wyoming the Cowboys were coming off a 2-19 season and two years later they posted a record of 22-4, had won the Cincinnati Hills Conference championship, and had progressed to the district fi nals of the division II tournament. Rooks contributions to this success were acknowledged by press and peers. He was named the Cincinnati Enquirer D-2 coach of the year and voted the coach of the year by both the District 16 Coaches Association, and the Cincinnati Hills League coaches. Prior to becoming a head coach Rooks served his coaching apprenticeship at Moeller high school. He coached the Moeller freshmen for eight years, and for his fi nal seven years also served as a varsity assistant to Moeller head coach Carl Kremer. He was an integral part of the Moeller staff when the Crusaders won the 2007 Ohio Division 1 championship. Rooks went directly into teaching and coaching following an outstanding college playing career. He played four seasons for Bethel College, Kentucky (2000-2004) where he still ranks third in career scoring with 2183 points and is high on the Bethel career lists for both assists and rebounds. Rooks is currently teaching physical education classes at two Lakota el- ementary schools, Endeavor, and Woodland. V Tony Bradberry // HEAD COACH Coach Bradberry is no stranger to the Lakota West program. While a wrestler in high school, Bradberry was a three-time GMC Champion, three-time sectional champion, two time district champion and a three-time state qualifi er placing third in the state (see photo above) his senior season. Bradberry continued his wrestling suc- cess at Ashland University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in May 2010. While at Ashland, he was a national qualifi er, Academic All-American, team captain and a three-time FILA University Greco-Roman All-American. Since graduating from Ashland, Bradberry has been an assistant wres- tling coach at Oak Hills High School, a volunteer coach at Lakota West, head wrestling coach of Southwest Ohio Wrestling Club and most recently, the Varsity Head Coach at Lebanon High School (’12-’14). Bradberry achieved great success at Lebanon increasing their number of wrestlers each season and coaching two of the highest team fi nishes at the conference meet in the last decade. Over the course of two years, Lebanon had 3 GWOC champions, 16 sectional placers, 10 district qualifi ers, 4 district placers and 2 state qualifi ers. In his fi rst two years at Lakota West, Bradberry has led the Firebirds to an 16-7 dual record, a runner-up fi nish in the GMC (2015), and two sectional championships. Last season, he had two wrestlers who both advanced and placed at the OHSAA State Championships (Tim Tanner-Blair 4th, 285lbs & Drew Fenton 8th, 220lbs).
