Jeff Wadl >> VARSITY HEAD COACH Jeff Wadl now becomes just the second football head coach in Lakota West history. He fi rst joined the football staff when the school opened in the fall of 1997, the fi rst Firebird season. Last year he was both the offensive line coach and teamed as the offensive coordinator along with recently retired former head coach Larry Cox. Wadl has been preparing for this opportunity since 1984 when he took his fi rst assignment, that of coaching the offensive line at his high school alma mater Western Hills where he had been a standout lineman as a prep. After coaching stints at Purcell Marian and Withrow high schools Jeff came to Lakota West as both a social studies teacher and coach. His day job is currently Dean of Students at Lakota West. He is also known to local sports fans as a public address announcer. He has been the “Voice of the Firebirds” for basketball and various other sports over the years.

Rick Cooper >> HEAD COACH Rick Cooper became the Lakota West head coach in 2004. The position had been vacated by the unexpected death of his mentor, Steve Cummins the previous year*. Shortly after Cummins passing Cooper resigned as the Sycamore high school head coach, a position he had held for three years, and returned to take leadership of the program that he had helped Cummins build. Since his return, the Firebirds have played in six district tournament fi nals winning three. His 2004 team went on to win the regional championship. In 2011 Cooper’s Firebirds won a GMC championship and he was named conference coach of the year. Cooper had joined Cummin’s staff at Lakota in 1992 as the junior varsity coach and served in that capacity for four years. He had an outstanding 75.1% winning percentage as the Junior Varsity coach capping that phase of his career with a 12-1-2 record in 1995. Cooper was then promoted to varsity assistant coach. He was Cummin’s chief assistant with the 1996 Lakota Greater Miami Conference championship team, the 1997 Lakota West GMC Championship team, and the 2000 Lakota West team which made a run to the State Final Four. Cooper left Lakota West in 2001 to accept the varsity head coaching position offered by his high school alma mater, Sycamore. The Aviators, coming off a down year in 2000, struggled to a 6-9-1 record and a tie for seventh in the GMC in Coopers fi rst season at the helm. By his third season, Cooper had piloted the Aviators up to a tie for third in the GMC and a very respectable 11-4-4 overall record. Cooper played soccer for four seasons at Sycamore high school, earning three varsity letters. After graduating from Sycamore in 1987 he earned a degree in education at Ball State University. While there he played four seasons on the JUNIOR VARSITY college’s club team. In his last two club seasons, he doubled as both head coach and player. In his student teaching year at Ball State, he began his high school coaching career serving as the varsity assistant for North Central High school. After 2018 LAKOTA WEST FIREBIRDS graduation from Ball State in 1991, Cooper served as a boys coach for the Fairfi eld soccer club. His past club coaching activities have also included work with both the Sycamore and Club Ohio Soccer clubs. Cooper began teaching in the Lakota # NAME YR POS # NAME YR POS school district in the fall of 1992. He currently teaches gifted education classes at Liberty junior school. 2 Ryan Motolik 9 DEF 13 Miles Johnson 10 MID 4 Gregory Edwards 11 STR 14 Nate Nowicki 10 DEF 5 Vince Brown 9 STR 16 Sergio Negroe 10 STR 6 Jeremy Fuller 9 MID 18 Kyler Hagstrom 9 DEF 7 Daniel Jablonka 10 MID 19 Hayden Lochard 9 MID 8 Kaleb Martin 10 MID 20 Nikolaus Krause 9 DEF 9 Mikey Riley 9 STR 22 Christian Kanno 9 DEF 10 Andrew Stigler 11 DEF 23 Adam Szolwinski 9 G 11 Michael Lane 10 DEF 24 Austin Semrad 9 G 12 Trevor Schwarber 10 DEF

Brigit Reder >> HEAD COACH Brigit became the Lakota West Varsity head coach in 2016 and we have since seen two seasons of consistent improvement in the team’s won/lost record, city ranking, and tournament advancement. The 2016 assignment was her fi rst as a soccer coach but her background included a wealth of soccer playing experience at the high school, college, and professional level. She also built on two year’s experience as the Lakota West junior varsity girls basketball coach. Basketball was also a sport she excelled at while a student at West playing on a Firebird team that reached the Ohio D-1 State Final 4. Brigit was an all-GMC second team soccer player as a Firebird sophomore, and then following a junior season hampered by injury, came back to be named All-GMC fi rst team as a senior. As a collegian, she was a four-year varsity starter at Ball State University where she set the Cardinals school record for minutes played in a career. From her defender position at BSU Reder still scored 11 goals in her collegiate career including a hat trick against Lamar University in 2011. She graduated from Ball State with academic honors and a BS degree in Special Education. Upon leaving Ball State Brigit went on to play professional soccer for the Seattle Sounders FC, the Western New York Flash, and fi nally two seasons for Ostersund DFF in Ostersund, Sweden.
