www.leonardo.com.au Test cricket explained for beginners via an EPC By Indrajit Datta Chaudhuri
Test match between team A and B begins
Note
Team A bats EPC stands for event-driven process chain which is a standard process modelling notation. This process model is a modest attempt to explain the basics of test cricket for absolute beginners. It does not cater for all situations. There can be many other exception scenarios in test cricket that have not been covered in this model. All attempts have been made to follow EPC semantic rules however some event/activity naming is kept XOR descriptive to explain the situation better. For detailed rules and regulations please refer to http://www.icc-cricket.com/about/91/rules-and-regulations/ overview
Team A all batsman out OR Team A bats till stops batting end of match before all out (i.e. duration (5 days) A declares)
Team B bats DRAW
Test match over XOR
Team B all out or Team B keeps declares (before batting for rest of all out) the match
Check if DRAW (Team A score – team B score) >200?
Test match over XOR
A score – B score is <=200 (including -ve value) A score – B score > 200
Team A has option to opt for Team A cannot follow on (i.e. opt for follow on team A can make team B bat again)
Does team A opt for “follow on” ?
XOR
Team A opts for follow-on and Team A does not asks team B to opt for follow-on bat
Team B bats again, their 2nd XOR innings (instead of team A’s 2nd batting innings)
Team A bats, 2nd innings XOR
Team B all out or Match time over declares before but team B still has XOR every batsman wickets (A does not get a chance to bat are out 2nd innings)
Time over but Team A all out OR neither team A’s Check total score declares before all batsman are of team B from all out DRAW out nor do they both 1st and 2nd declare innings
Check the total score of A from DRAW Test match over 1st and 2nd XOR innings
Team B’s total Team B’s total Test match over score from both score from both XOR innings is more innings is less than team A’s first than team A’s 1st inning innings score
Team A’s total Team A’s total score is less than score is more Team A comes to Team B’s score than team B’s 1st bat the 2nd A wins from 1st innings innings innings
Team B starts to B wins Check the score bat 2nd innings made by Team A Test match over in remaining time
XOR Test match over XOR
All out,Team A All out,Team B Team A total All out but Team Team A scores Team B’s total Team B scores total from both Team B all out but total from both score is more A’s total score in less but time is score is more less than A’s total innings and Team scores less than innings and Team than Team B total less than total B’s over and wickets than total score of score, wickets left B total from both total score of A A total from both score score are still left A within the time but time is over innings are equal innings are equal
A wins B wins DRAW TIE B wins A wins DRAW TIE
