Morwenna is a harpist working in and offers her services for individual music therapy sessions for residents of care homes. She reminds us that “Sadly, some elderly people are bed-ridden, don’t leave their rooms, and have little stimulation in their lives.” This she has witnessed in her husband’s grandmother, who is immobile and despite the best efforts of family members who visit her every day, sadly spends a lot of her time looking at a wall. She has no interest in television. “For the past year we have visited her regularly, and we have noticed that when I take my harp and play to her, she becomes more animated than she otherwise would be. Often certain songs will trigger smiles or nostalgic tears. For someone who rarely communicates in any way at all, my husband finds this very profound. It is this that has motivated me to offer my services to others.” Morwenna plays traditional Celtic and Old English folk songs. She plays a 31 string Clarsach (folk harp) which is small enough to rest on a bed or chair, and can also enable residents to experience the harp very directly by running their hands along the strings themselves (with a little help from if needs be). This could be a wonderful experience for someone you know and love but now sadly bedridden. Contact Morwenna on 07961 512 428 and learn about what she can offer; be aware that Morwenna, lovely person that she is, is not a charity; she too has to pay the rent and the gas bill. Remember, the harp is the instrument of choice for angels. TRISTAN FIELD GARDEN SERVICES Established 1992

Following on from Nigglesworth - We rejoice, here in Nailsworth, at having free parking: this is a cautionary tale about the limits thereof. Two hours in the Nailsworth Mills car park on George Street is usually more than adequate for whatever you want to do but it’s well worth remembering that two hours means just that. Your correspondent parked at about 09.55 to go to a meeting. At 12.02 the parking attendant noted that the car had overstayed its welcome and quarter of an hour later a ticket was issued. Well, we got value for that ticket because it was an hour later, after an excellent lunch in the Olive Tree, that we returned to the car and discovered the ticket. By any standards it was a ‘fair cop’. Because we’ve paid within 14 days we’ve got away with a £50 penalty; it’s £90 between 14 and 28 days – and heaven knows how much thereafter. You could do a lot of paid-for parking in Stroud, Gloucester or Cheltenham for £50 so, although parking in Nailsworth is free, it’s well worth keeping an eye on the time!

Chestnut Hill House Dame Janet Trotter (Lord Lt. of Gloucestershire) was certainly not eclipsed by heavenly events last month when she came to unveil the new plaque at VAD Hospital, Chestnut Hill House. This, the former home of the Clissold family of civic and local Brewery fame, was a military hospital in WW1 and tended to many severely wounded soldiers at the time. The plaque was presented on behalf of the Nailsworth Society (Local History Group) by Tony Burton photoed standing right in centre photo), unveiled by Dame Janet (right photo standing left) and with added contributions from Myles Robinson (Mayor), Pamela Tawse (ex Red Cross), Jinny Marshall (Nailsworth Society, Chairman) and Kathleen Beard (resident).
