2. THE LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY A. Supervision of several MSc and PGD Students. B. Supervision of PhD Students i. AFOLABI, Abiodun Tajudeen; May 2009. Spatial analysis of the impact of Deforestation on the Environment of Lagos State. (Major Supervisor) ii. OGWU Chukwudi; June 2009. The Comparative Study of the Impact of Oil Exploration on Okpai in Ndokwa East Local Government Area and Oko in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Delta State . (Major Supervisor) iii. OGUNBUYI Moses; April 2011. Studies on Household Waste Management in Lagos State, Nigeria (Second Supervisor) C. Administrative i. Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration (Dec. 8, 2011 – Dec. 7, 2013) Assisted the Vice-Chancellor in the Administration of the University and also acted for him on his instruction during his absence from the University.

ii. Dean, Post Graduate School (August 2004 – May 2007) Modest effort was made in order to consolidate the excellent foundation made by my predecessors. The time of processing the notification of results was reduced to a maximum of 3 days. The abstracts of M.Sc and Ph.D degrees of LASU were compiled for publication. The Postgraduate School circulated the statutory dates for her meetings at the beginning of the academic session; and these dates were strictly adhered to. The calendar for all postgraduate programmes was synchronized.

The Postgraduate School Board set up a Committee on Minimum Academic Standard for all her Postgraduate courses with the active support of the Vice-Chancellor. An internal accreditation exercise was carried out on the basis of the carrying capacity of each postgraduate programme with a view of identifying the non-viable ones and enhancing the viable ones. A seminar was held in November 2005, on same.

iii. Directorship, Centre For Environment, Science and Education (Oct. 2001 – July 2004) The Centre for Environment, Science and Education enjoyed a lot of goodwill during my tenure. The erstwhile Vice – Chancellor sponsored a Seminar on the Wetland

4 Management in Lagos State. This seminar brought together all stake holders in Lagos State, in the area of Environmental Management. The then Vice–Chancellor had graciously allocated, in principle, a niche for CESE during my tenure as the Director of the Centre. iv. Dean, Faculty of Science (1998 – 2000) Many staff members enjoyed university sponsorship for their Ph.D programmes both locally and internationally. Some members of staff did part of their post-graduate work in overseas universities under the DAAD programme. Some senior staff members went on fellowship to Germany, Spain, Italy and Greece. The ETF gave the Faculty of Science Ten Million Naira for the procurement of chemicals and equipment and also for the repair of the laboratories. v. Chairman Health Services Management Committee. 1997 – 1999 During my tenure as the chairman of the Health Services Management committee the following achievements were recorded. (b) The areas around the health centre were cordoned off and a fence was erected to give the place a face lift. (c) About N15 Million was generated for the health centre through the introduction of i. Special level for waste generators in LASU ii. Medical Fee for both the undergraduate and postgraduate Students iii. Medical examination of food handlers was introduced. (d) A case was made for the payment of the MSS and the establishment of a 24hr. Medical Service at the Ojo campus. (e) The drug stock level at the health centre was kept at about 50%, both at the Epe and Ojo campuses. vi. Acting Head/ Head of the Department of Chemical Sciences (1994-1998) During my tenure as the Acting Head of Department and later head of Department of Chemical Sciences; the Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Science programmes in and Chemistry were developed and executed. At present, as the most senior member of the department, the modalities for trans-national training programmes for our PhD students are under consideration. The mentoring system in the department was effective in the sense that seven members of staff of the Chemical Sciences

5 Department went for their PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry and completed same in record time.

The two order staff members in the Chemistry Department are in the U.K. pursuing their Ph.D. I co-supervised the first M.Phil student in LASU in 1999-2000 sessions. Co-designed the Curriculum for M.Sc and M.Phil Chemistry courses in 1997.
