RETAIL WINE WINE LIST CORKAGE POLICY Stephen Elhafdi, Wine Director/Sommelier WINE LIST Stephen Elhafdi, Wine Director/Sommelier The Goodstone Inn & Restaurant has more than 820 wine selections from the world’s greatest wine regions. Each wine has been hand-selected and specifically chosen to complement our current menu. We also offer an extensive list of wines by the glass, local wines, aperitifs, and after dinner selections. RETAIL WINE We are also excited to announce the launch of our new retail wine program, which offers bottles and cases of wine which are reasonably priced and not readily available in most markets. Our Sommelier, Stephen Elhafdi, will offer his expertise and personalized service as a complimentary consultant to you as you build your own wine cellar or make individual purchases targeted for special events. CORKAGE POLICY We recognize the occasional desire of our guests to enjoy special bottles of wine from their own cellars, and we will serve and care for these wines as if they were our own. However, our policy is that there is a limit of two bottles per table, regardless of the size of the party, and the fee is priced at $45.00 for each 750ml bottle. In addition, we also ask that these wines do not appear on our list. Proud Recipient of Wine Spectator Since 2016 Best of Award of Excellence Proud Recipient of Wine Spectator 2015 Award of Excellence OpenTable Diners Choice Washington, D.C. Area: Restaurants with the Most Notable Wine List 2018 Stephen Elhafdi, Wine Director/Sommelier With over 32 years of hospitality experience in the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, Stephen Elhafdi brings an impressive blend of expertise and enthusiasm to the Goodstone Inn & Restaurant in Middleburg, Virginia. A native of Morocco, Mr. Elhafdi came to the United States as an apprentice to work with his uncle Marc Fusilier, the internationally acclaimed Maître Cuisinier de France and Commanderie des Cordons Bleus de France. They worked together for 14 years at the upscale Chez Marc, Restaurant Français, in Virginia. He eventually transitioned from the kitchen to the front of the house, and seriously began to pursue his studies in the fine art of food and wine pairings. For the next decade, he worked with the legendary restaurateur and Chef Bob Kinkead in Washington, D.C. At the height of Chef Kinkead’s success in multiple locations, Mr. Elhafdi helped to build a global wine list of over 750 wines. He managed an inventory in excess of 6,000 bottles and over a million dollars in annual wine sales. In 2013, Mr. Elhafdi accepted the position of Sommelier at the Goodstone Inn & Restaurant, working hand-in-hand with Executive Chef Jan Van Haute and the General Manager Gordon Leigh. Set on a 265 acre estate in Virginia’s wine country, Goodstone Inn & Restaurant is a luxurious country Inn and award-winning French/American restaurant situated on an actual working farm. Within the restaurant, Escoffier-trained Chef Jan and Mr. Elhafdi offer an extensive farm-to-table dining experience, with wine pairings perfectly matched to a variety of menus, including a daily à la carte, prix-fixe, dégustation and ‘Chef’s Surprise’ Menu for lunch only, six days a week. Mr. Elhafdi also created Goodstone’s Retail Wine Club program, and regularly hosts a series of popular food and wine events at the Restaurant, featuring well-known international winemakers. He also offers complimentary consulting services to our guests as they build their personal wine cellars, or make individual purchases targeted towards special events. At the Goodstone Inn & Restaurant, Mr. Elhafdi maintains a wine list of over 820 selections, many of which have been specifically chosen for the current season and dinner menu. Goodstone also has a temperature-controlled, 4000-bottle wine cellar, an extremely popular private dining space for special events or exclusive wine dinners. In addition, Goodstone has ten EuroCaves, housing up to 1500 additional bottles. While serving as Sommelier, the Goodstone Inn & Restaurant has won numerous awards, including: Wine Spectator Since 2016 Best of Award of Excellence Wine Spectator 2015 Award of Excellence OpenTable Diners Choice Washington, D.C. #6 TASTING NOTES BY: MASTER SOMMELIER MAX CAST Moderate intensity of aroma with ripe yellow pear, fresh Meyer lemon, quince zest, golden delicious apple, and notes of honey and button mushroom (possibly signs of botyrtis). The wine is dry, full-bodied, with an oily texture. There is phenolic bitterness as well. TASTING NOTES BY: F.L.X. TABLE’S MICHALIS KALAMPOUKAS Notes of ripe peach, lemon cream and apple. There is Chamomile-like floral quality, mushroom and wet wool notes with some possible botrytis from the notes of dried honey and ginger. Sweetness: Dry Tannin: Slight Phenolic Bitterness Alcohol: Medium Plus Acid: Medium Oak: old world or new? climate? grape? country? place? WINE DETAILS: Winery: Famille Hugel Cuvee: Classic “Hugel” Grape: Pinot Gris Country: France Regions: Alsace Vintage: 2017 Alcohol: 14.5% Elevage: No New Oak Other: Slow, temperature controlled fermentations NOTES : Alsatian Pinot Gris is very different from its Italian counterpart Pinot Grigio; it is even slightly more aromatic. This could be confused with Marsanne/Roussanne blend form the Rhône, but those have slightly more lifted aromatics and are often aged in oak. Once you have narrowed down moderate aromatics, medium plus body, oily texture, medium acid, there are very few places to go, except Alsatian Pinot Grigio. A great blind tasting example that what is not there also can lead the way to a conclusion. Retail Price: $25 Click Here to Reorder at F.L.X. • Domaine Regis Bouvier
DOMAINE REGIS BOUVIER Country: France Region: Burgundy Appellation(s): Bourgogne, Marsannay, Fixin, Morey-St-Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin Producer: Régis Bouvier Founded: 1981 Annual Production: 6,000 cases Farming: Lutte Raisonnée (starting with 1998 vintage) Régis Bouvier in Marsannay achieves a rare hat trick in Burgundy, the mastering of all three colors– red, white and rosé, through reasonable yields and high quality terroirs. Bouvier makes the best Burgundian rosé that we have ever tasted, his whites are delicious, with their own particular character completely unlike other Chardonnays from Burgundy, and his reds are his crowning achievement, managing to be wild and exciting while refined and elegant at the same time. Bouvier’s vineyards in Marsannay are premier-cru quality (some may even get classified) and his lieu- dit Bourgogne Rouge En Montre Cul vineyard is of a quality well above most (cultivated on a steep slope, not flatland Bourgogne). And don’t miss his Morey-St-Denis En la Rue de Vergy, a superb vineyard right above the Grand Cru Clos de Tart. This domaine represents terrific value for a number of reasons–a lesser-known appellation combined with quality vineyard holdings and a conscientious and talented wine grower. 1605 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94702 www.kermitlynch.com | [email protected] Berkeley Retail: 510.524.1524 | California Wholesale: 510.903.0440 | National Distribution: 707.963.8293 DOMAINE REGIS BOUVIER (continued) Vine Vineyard Wine Blend Soil Type Age Area* Avg. 35 Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir Limestone,

However, to The Wine Forum, Burgundy is more than just pure, scholarly wine. To us, whom we will be visiting and splitting the proceeds equally between these two worthy causes. Burgundy represents all that we as a group stand for—that is, that fine wine is not a right, but a And what a tour we have lined up! We commence with a Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru tasting privilege. Speaking with the region’s very top winemakers, they resolutely believe they are merely the current custodians of cherished plots, and that their role is to make the best wines possible at the Château du Clos de Vougeot on the final night of the 2014 Musique et Vin Festival.
