Zimniak), p. 394. SOMMARI - SUMMARIES Scoperto un inedito ritratto di don Bosco? FRANCESCO MOTTO La storia è sempre ricca di sorprese. Ad oltre un secolo di distanza dalla morte di don Bosco viene ritrovato in provincia di Lecco un cartoncino a stampa, proveniente da Chieri (Torino), con un gruppo fotografico, composto da quattro signore e da un prete con “qualche” somiglianza con don Bosco. Si tratta effettivamente del santo educatore di Torino? E come mai questo ritratto di un don Bosco piuttosto giovane spunta solo ora, dopo che ancora una decina di anni fa sono state condotte accuratis- sime ricerche un po’ ovunque in Italia e altrove? Perché nell’immensa storiografia su don Bosco non c’è cenno alcuno di tale fotografia? L’autore risponde a tali domande e con il conforto di apposite ricerche condotte dal Gruppo Investigazioni Scientifiche dei Carabinieri di Roma e da un Centro spe- cializzato di restauro fotografico approda ad identificare in don Bosco il personaggio centrale della foto in oggetto; ipotetica, ma non priva di fondamento, è invece l’iden- tificazione delle donne della fotografia. La data? Approssimativamente la fine degli anni cinquanta. The discovery of an unpublished portrait of Don Bosco? FRANCESCO MOTTO History is always full of surprises. More than a century after the death of Don Bosco a post card coming from Chieri has been found in the province of Lecco, containing a group photograph of four people and a priest who “somewhat” resem- bles Don Bosco. Is it really the saintly educator from Turin? And how is it that this picture of a relatively youthful Don Bosco has come to light now, after the very careful research that was carried out a decade or so ago throughout Italy and beyond? Why was it that in the wealth of historical material on Don Bosco there was no refer- ence to such a photograph? The author answers these questions, and with the benefit of some research car- ried out by the Scientific Investigation Department of the Roman Police and with the assistance of a specialist photographic restoration centre arrives at the conclusion that the person in the centre of the photograph is Don Bosco; speculative, but not without foundation, on the other hand is the identification of the women in the photograph. The date? Approximately the end of the fifties. 184 Sommari - Summaries Educazione della donna in Sicilia tra Otto e Novecento. Le Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice e Luigi Sturzo GAETANO ZITO Con l’aiuto di documentazione archivistica per lo più inedita, il saggio rico- struisce il primo quarantennio dell’opera delle Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice in Sicilia, vista nella particolare prospettiva dell’incidenza sociale. Vengono così presentate le case effettivamente fondate, le richieste non esaudite e le motivazioni addotte per l’accettazione o il rifiuto. Ne risulta di conseguenza sia un quadro della situazione dell’isola nelle sue componenti politiche, religiose, sociali, culturali, sia il possibile impatto su di esse delle FMA, fra le quali assume ruolo di primo piano la madre Morano, dichiarata beata dall’attuale pontefice. L’autore, mentre sottolinea la qualità dell’educazione impartita alla popolazione femminile dell’isola e il nuovo modello di donna consacrata che le FMA vengono ad offrire con il loro diversificato servizio educativo, non manca di indicare le ombre e gli aspetti problematici di tale servizio. Una ricca appendice documentaria presenta carte geografiche e tabelle con dati quantitativi e qualitativi delle fondazioni delle FMA oltre alla fitta corrispondenza fra madre Morano e don Sturzo in merito alla fondazione di una opera delle FMA a Caltagirone (Catania). The education of women in Sicily in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and Luigi Sturzo GAETANO ZITO With the help of hitherto unpublished archival material, the article describes the first forty years of the work of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in Sicily from the particular point of view of its social impact. Considered in this way are the houses actually opened and the requests not followed up, with the motives adopted for their acceptance or refusal. There emerges consequently both a view of the situation on the island in its political, religious, social and cultural dimensions and the impact made on these by the FMA, among whom the principal place is occupied by Mother Morana, who was beatified by the present Pontiff. While emphasising the quality of the education provided for girls on the island, and the new kind of consecrated woman that the FMA presented with their varied educational involvement, the author does not fail to mention the negative aspects and the difficulties of such a service. A wealth of documentation is provided in appendices with maps and tables and statistical data regarding the FMA foundations, in addition to a large quantity of correspendence between Mother Morano and Don Sturzo regarding the foundation of an FMA house at Caltagirone (Catania). La clandestinità del quadrumviro Cesare Maria De Vecchi di Val Cismon in una memoria di don Francesco Làconi FRANCESCO MOTTO Viene pubblicata una memoria di don Francesco Làconi circa la lunga e perico- lossima operazione – nota finora soltanto in estrema sintesi e con notevoli impreci- sioni – della protezione concessa, grazie all’intervento diretto del Rettor Maggiore don Pietro Ricaldone, da varie case salesiane del Piemonte (e successivamente di Roma e di Buenos Aires) al famoso quadrumviro fascista Cesare Maria De Vecchi di Val Cismon, condannato a morte dai “repubblichini” di Salò e ricercato sia dai tede- schi che dai partigiani. Il recupero di alcune fonti coeve, verificate con numerose testimonianze orali di protagonisti, conferma e completa il dettagliatissimo resoconto della fase piemontese di tale operazione-salvezza e le due tappe finali. The hidden exile of the statesman Maria De Vecchi di Val Cismon in a memoir of Don Francesco Làconi FRANCESCO MOTTO A memoir of Don Francesco Làconi is published regarding the long and very dangerous operation, – until now known only very briefly and with some consi- derable inaccuracies – of the protection provided, thanks to the direct intervention of the Rector Major Fr Peter Ricaldone, by various Salesian houses in Piedmont (and subsequently in Rome and in Buenos Aires) for the famous fascist statesman Cesare Maria De Vecchi di Val Cismon, condemned to death by the “republicans” of Salò, and sought by both the Germans and the Partisans. The recovery of some contemporary sources, authenicated by a number of oral testimonies of those directly involved, confirms and completes the very detailed account of the piedmontese phase of this mission of mercy and the two final stages.
