Graphic outlining TCF corridors listed, similar to graphic below. The £57 million will enable and County Council to deliver joint plans for sustainable and active travel in the City Region in a targeted way. This is a significant level of capital transport funding that will have a transformative impact on people’s journeys by bus, walking and cycling. It will also support Southampton City Council’s Green City Plan and Hampshire County Council’s Climate Emergency, enabling the sustainable growth of the City Region.

The Corridors and background

The Transforming Cities Fund corridors cover the Southampton City Region; with investment being centred along corridors 1,4 and part of 5.

Corridor 4 schemes, will connect and to by bus and bike, and onwards from Eastleigh to and Southampton by bus and bike. It has connections with rail network at Eastleigh and Southampton Airport.

The corridor serves District Centre and employment areas in City Centre around , Royal South Hants Hospital, Mountpark Southampton, Southampton Airport, Eastleigh Town Centre, and Barton Park Industrial Estate in Eastleigh.

The corridor has poor current provision for cyclists through Portswood District Centre, cycle routes from Eastleigh towards Southampton are also disconnected, there are AQMAs on Southampton Road in Eastleigh and Valley Road in Southampton.

Corridor 5 schemes, will connect area such as (new housing allocations along eastern side of the A27 and alongside northern end of Hamble Lane) to the proposed rapid bus corridor connecting the area to the City via and Northam. Tranche 1 has already delivered a cycle track alongside the A3024 which connects to the Eastleigh Boundary, this cycle network will be extended.

Corridor 1 schemes reach out into the Waterside area, via Totton, Marchwood, Hythe and Dibden to connect this area of high future economic growth to the city. It is home to the strategic growth option for the Port of Southampton, the Marchwood Military Port, Fawley Oil Refinery Exxon and will see the development of 3,500+ additional dwellings; with 1,100 being located at the southern end of this peninsula at Fawley on the site of the former Fawley power station. The funding aims to improve bus journey times and reliability through priority measures and connect all the settlements for cyclists.

Planned schemes in more detail.

Waterside – Totton/Eling to Redbridge improvements scheme Waterside Walking & Cycling) from TCF T1. This scheme will deliver improvements too existing cycling infrastructure, widening the route where possible, adding new crossing facilities and signage.

Redbridge viaduct – increasing the height of the bridge parapets to the desired height, offering increased protection for cyclists.

Eling to Holbury Cycle Route – the development of a continuous cycle route from Eling to Holbury. The route is a mix of on and off road, segregated and shared, maximising the opportunities and funding available. The route aims to link the existing settlements along the Waterside together, creating a legible and cohesive network of routes.

Rushington Rbt – bus priority - Adding traffic signals and additional capacity to the roundabout to speed up the bus at this congested location.

Marchwood Bypass – bus priority - A bus only right turn from the A326 onto Marchwood bypass, joining with Rushington Roundabout to reduce journey length and therefore speed up journey times.

Junction Road, Totton – bus only link - in both directions to reduce journey length and speed up journey times. Location of a ‘super’ stop for bus passengers on Commercial Road.

Improved bus stops with real time information - Super and enhanced stops are proposed along the corridors to improve passengers experience, waiting facilities and information supplied. Potentially the opportunity for micro consolidation, e-bikes, retail lockers/offers.

Eastleigh

Eastleigh Town Centre cycle route (from Southampton Parkway to Eastleigh Town Centre) - Modal filters, signage and crossing facilities to provide a cycle route from Southampton Parkway to Eastleigh Town Centre.

Bishopstoke Rd, Eastleigh (western end) – bus priority - The provision of bus lane, signal priority from Riverside Junction to Chickenhall Lane Junction.

Airport Parkway travel hub - The provision of travel information and interchange at the Airport Parkway site to ensure integration between modes and improve journey efficiency and journey planning.

Eastleigh Mobility Hub - A Local Mobility Hub (LMH) will be a single place where a range of mobility options, services and facilities are available in a convenient location. They provide the opportunity for people who do not have access to their own car or only have one vehicle to access a vehicle. They can also be used by those that want to make cleaner trips using an electric vehicle, bike or cargo bike for work, business or leisure.

Bursledon

Bursledon Road Cycle Link - Improving existing provision for cyclists and enabling connectivity and joining up routes within the developing cycling network.

A27 Providence Hill Cycle Link - Improving existing provision for cyclists and enabling connectivity and joining up routes within the developing cycling network.
