THE HANS VOGT AWARD 2019 GOES TO

Munich, 23 October 2019 – The HANS VOGT AWARD of the city of Rehau has been awarded annually since 2013 during the Hof International Film Festival. The prize is endowed with 5,000 euros and is aimed at filmmakers who are innovative and diligent in the expression and quality of their film sound.

This year the award goes to the director and screenwriter CAROLINE LINK

Caroline Link was born in 1964 in Bad Nauheim. In 1986 she began her studies in Documentary Film and Television Journalism at the University of Television and Film in Munich. Her graduation film SOMMERTAGE was awarded the Kodak Prize at the Hof International Film Festival in 1990. She also worked as an assistant director and scriptwriter (among others, for the crime series DER FAHNDER) and worked for the Hof International Film Festival for several years. In 1992 she made the children's film KALLE DER TRÄUMER for the public broadcaster ZDF. In 1995 she filmed the drama BEYOND SILENCE about a deaf couple and their musically talented daughter. The film was nominated for an Oscar® in the category Best Foreign Language Feature Film in 1998 and catapulted Caroline Link to the international stage. The film received numerous awards, including the Bavarian Film Award, the German Film Award in Silver, the Guild Film Prize in Gold and prizes abroad for Best Film at the festivals in Tokyo, Chicago, Vancouver and Calcutta. In 1999, Caroline Link once again proved her flair for touching stories with the successful Erich Kästner adaptation ANNALUISE & ANTON. This film also won several national and international awards. Caroline Link finally received the Oscar® for Best Foreign Language Film with (2001). The Stefanie Zweig adaption was awarded four German Film Awards and, like the previous works, was a great commercial success: the three films attracted between 1.7 and 1.9 million admissions to the cinema. In 2008, Caroline Link staged the drama A YEAR AGO IN WINTER, based on the novel by Scott Campbell about a mother and her daughter, who deal with grief very differently after the suicide of their son and brother. Caroline Link won the Bavarian Film Award in the category Best Director for this film and the German Film Award in Silver in the category Best Feature Film. Film composer was also honored for Best Film Music. For EXIT MARRAKECH (2013), Link confronted a German theater director (), who is staging a play in Morocco, with his 16-year-old rebellious son, who accuses the father of failure in his role as a role model. The young actor Samuel Schneider received the New Faces Award in 2014 for his performance as Best Young Actor. ALL ABOUT ME (2018), based on Hape Kerkeling's childhood memories, was Caroline Link's most successful film to date with more than 3.7 million admissions in . The film won numerous awards, including three German Film Awards, the Bavarian Film Award, the German Drama Award, the Jupiter Award and three Austrian Romys. Julius Weckauf, who played the young Hape Kerkeling, also won the New Faces Award and the Golden Space Needle Award at the Seattle International Film Festival. In December 2019, Caroline Link's new film WHEN HITLER STOLE PINK RABBIT will be released in German cinemas.

The Hans Vogt Award is intended to commemorate the pioneering achievements of Hans Vogt, an engineer born in Rehau in 1890, who played a decisive role in the invention of the sound film and brought about a new era in the history of cinema.
