Each May, we gather in Cannes to celebrate the scriptwriters who have Violetta Kamińska ScripTeast participated in ScripTeast over the past year and award the best of their scripts Managing Director the Krzysztof Kieślowski ScripTeast Award at a ceremony by the sea. Of course this year circumstances dictate that we must put on our cocktail attire and sip our champagne at home instead. It is in the nature of creativity to persevere, and with it, our industry perseveres too. We must move forward just as surely as we must make films – the call of creativity cannot be denied.

And so we move onwards, with our support for the best CEE writers, providing them with the wisest advice and expertise of top international professionals. Our goal is, as always, to help scriptwriters navigate the industry, never give up, and make films for the burgeoning global audience. So far, 43 of these films Izabela Wójcik have been made to box office and critical acclaim, with just the most recent Foundation, Director success being Vaclav Marhoul’s “The Painted Bird,” the story of which, in itself, is a great lesson in perseverance.

Fully polished through hard work with the help of our distinguished advisors, we present to you here 11 of the best projects and authors from this part of Europe, amongst which we hope you might find the next great internationally acclaimed discovery.

ScripTeast is a year-long, project-based training program for professional screenwriters from Central and Eastern Europe. Participation in the program helps the writer develop the script with international audiences in mind, as well as meet and understand the global film industry. Currently in its 14th edition, the program runs from October till May each year and is punctuated by stationary sessions in Poland, Berlin, and Cannes. The first stationary session in Poland is an intensive week focused on 1-on-1 meetings with internationally acclaimed Creative Advisors to get the creative juices flowing, analyze the aspects of the script that can attract an above- national audience and put the rewriting process on a path to success. The work continues during an online session - a period of intensive work on the script and consultation with experts globally. The program continues at Berlinale where writers meet the international industry - producers, sales agents, distributors, funds experts. WWW @ The Independent Film Foundation was established in 1999 to promote creativity and the production of films of high artistic value, and to create opportunities for artistic and professional development of filmmakers. The founder of the Independent Film Foundation is Dariusz Jablonski, director and producer. His work in the Foundation is supported by Violetta Kaminska – Managing Director of ScripTeast and Izabela Wojcik – Managing Director of . Besides Foundation, D. Jablonski, V. Kaminska and I. Wojcik carry on wide international production activities through their companies: Apple Film Production and Message Film. They are all members of Polish and European Film Academies. Since its inception the Foundation has managed the Polish Film Awards Eagles. It was the initiative of the Foundation to establish the in 2003, whose members are all active Polish filmmakers. Members of the Academy grant the Eagles awards in a two-stage vote, supervised by pwc. The Foundation was also the initiator and organizer of the Polish-Czech-Slovak Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival and the Central European Cinema during the Berlin Film Festival. The Independent Film Foundation also co-organizes international meetings and conferences, of which the most important project was an Audiovisual Training Forum in Warsaw, co-organized with CARTOON and funded by the European Union and United International Pictures. Since 2006 the Foundation has run ScripTeast – an annual program for experienced writers, whose mission is to help writers of Eastern and Central Europe overcome obstacles they encounter, and promote their screenplays among the world’s best producers. The program is the result of a five-year long cooperation with ’s Sundance Institute within Central European Scriptwriters Lab.
