Moravian swept a non-conference doubleheader from Wilkes University by identical scores of 5-2 in both games to extend the Greyhounds winning streak to 15 straight games, tying the school record set in 1995. The Colonels jumped out to a 2- 0 lead in the top of the second inning of the first game on a pair of infield singles, however, the Greyhounds responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good. Freshman catcher Danielle Carrione (Bloomfield, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic HS) doubled with one out and moved to third on a double by senior outfielder Jessica Esposito (Madison, NJ/Madison HS). Junior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks East HS) followed with a two-RBI triple to tie the game. Cianfichi would score the winning run on a sacrifice fly by junior shortstop Heather Bortz (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS). Moravian added a single run in the third inning on a Wilkes error that allowed senior outfielder Melissa Soroka (Newton, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) to score. The Greyhounds finished off the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Soroka that scored senior third baseman Janelle Brey (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS), who had led off the inning with a double to give her 300 career total bases, the first player in Moravian history to reach that total in a career. Moravian had nine hits in the first game with Bortz collecting two hits to extend her school record-hitting streak to 32 games. Sophomore Meagan Hennessy (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township HS) remained perfect on the mound for the Greyhounds, improving to 8- 0. Hennessy allowed two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out eight batters. The Greyhounds fell behind 1-0 in the top of the third inning of the second game before scoring four unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good. The only Moravian RBI in the inning was a sacrifice fly by Carrione. Wilkes cut the Greyhounds’ lead to 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning, but again Moravian responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning Soroka scoring on a wild pitch. The Greyhounds had just four hits in the second contest with two coming off the bat of Bortz to extend her school record-hitting streak to 33 straight games. Senior Donna Weiner (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park HS) earned her fifth consecutive win for the Greyhounds, allowing two runs on four hits and eight walks while striking out six batters. Weiner now had 204 career strikeouts, the fifth Greyhound to reach 200 strikeouts and fourth all-time.

The Greyhounds, the top ranked team in the nation, extended third school-record winning streak to 17 games with a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader sweep of Messiah College, 3-0 & 2-0. Moravian, which hasn’t lost since a 3-2 loss in the opening game of the season to #6 Christopher Newport University, passed the previous winning streak of 15 games set by the 1995 squad. Moravian was voted to the top spot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll earlier this week. In the first game, Hennessy scattered two hits and walked two more batters while striking out a school record 14 hitters to remain undefeated on the season at 9-0. Hennessy got all the offense she would need in the bottom of the third inning. Cianfichi doubled to center field with two outs and scored from second base on an infield single by Bortz. The hit by Bortz extended her school-record hitting streak to 34 games. Moravian would add a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when senior designated player Jenn Hastings (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts HS) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Brey, who had walked with one out. The Greyhounds closed out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Brey, which scored Bortz, who had led off the inning with a single. Moravian had five hits in the game with Bortz collecting two of them and a double by Soroka. In the second game of the twinbill, Weiner scattered two hits and a walk while striking out two batters to improve to 6-1 on the season with her sixth straight win. Weiner received all the offense she would need in the bottom of the first inning. Bortz singled to lead off the inning, which extended her school-record hitting streak to 35 games, and scored on an infield single by Soroka. The Greyhounds added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Soroka doubled to left field to score junior Leah Holmes (Clarks Green, PA/Abington Heights HS), who had entered the game as a pinch runner for senior second baseman Megan Smith (Phillipsburg, NJ/Belvidere HS) after Smith reached on an infield single. The Greyhounds had five hits in the game with two by Soroka.
