In contrast to the dense urban texture of previously developed regions of the city, fringe-belts have a more loose texture and frequently retain the potential for the creation of public spaces. These include the open green areas, institutional areas, and industrial heritage sites that have connections with urban identity, and which are therefore essential for urban memory. Fringe-belts are both heritage areas and ecological corridors that create buffer zones to protect the natural landscape from urban sprawl.

İstanbul’da ticaret ve yönetim yapılarının en çok bulunduğu semtlerden biri olan Eminönü’nde bulunan ve bu çalışmanın konusu olarak belirlenen Büyük Postane hakkında yapılan bu çalışmada, öncelikle tarihsel sürece ilişkin kaynak araştırması yapılmış ve yerinde yapılan görsel belgelemenin ardından özellikle iç mekân kurgusu incelenmiş ve izin verildiği ölçüde çizim yapılmıştır. Günümüzde tescilli bir kamu yapısı olan Büyük Postane aynı zamanda mimarisi ve haberleşmedeki tarihsel görevi ve nitelikleri ile korunması gerekli önemli bir yapıdır. Büyük Postane binasının iç mekân donanımı, yatay, düşey yapı elemanları ve mobilyaları genel tasarım ilkeleri ve malzemeleri açısından incelenmiş ve günümüzde kullanılan PTT hizmet bölümü ile özgün teknik donatı, araç ve gereçler ile mobilyaların tarihsel gelişimi dikkate alınarak Büyük Postane Müzesi’nde çalışmalar yapılmıştır.

We sought new methods of data collection to better understand the significance of this novel trans-Eurasian transport mode. Cumulative causation economic theory can explain how positive industrial develop- ment can occur in both linear transport corridors and industrial cluster development in node cities. However on current economic metrics, it is difficult to accept the China narrative of structurally transformative economic development resulting from the intercontinental rail system policy. This paper expresses doubt as to the underlying institutional fac- tors behind the intercontinental rail system being developed by China and its surrounding Eurasian transport policy. We detail the economic theory underpinning the development of the ‘CR Express’ policy through examination of China central level transport policy sources and their horizontal integration with other central-level spatial planning poli- cies, and we examine the deployment of China’s model of intercontinental rail development in the ‘Middle Corridor’ be- tween the Kazakhstan border and Eastern European ports.

Wednesday, December 17 (Bursa/Pergamon/Sirence) This morning the group will depart for Edremit to visit the Adatepe Olive Oil Museum then continue to Bergama for lunch. Next the group will visit Pergamum, once one of the richest small kingdoms in Asia Minor. Here the group will visit the magnificent Acropolis - great theater and the marble-columned Temple of Trajan.
