2 SPECIAL THANKS My sincere thanks go to: Mark Edwards, Steve Pearce, Ian Thomas, Evan Jolly, Malcolm Edmonstone, Julian Siegel, Rob Leak, Andy Wood, Mark Jaimes, Rob Luft and also my incredible women: mum Clare, daughter Abigaile and best friend Jacqueline for allowing me to be me for all these years, and so many more.

My enormous gratitude to Joe Stilgoe for writing the title track for me and planting the idea.

I don’t know if I have enough words to explain how honoured and thankful I am to have been working with my darling friend, producer and mentor James McMillan. You genuinely have given me the wings to fly with this one, and I am eternally grateful and in awe.

I am dedicating this album to my lifeline Roger Carey.

James McMillan would like to thank Angelica for her love and support, Liane for her genius and and Philip Hobbs and Kim Campbell at Linn for their enthusiasm and support.

My dear friend Joe Stilgoe texted me a while back saying he had written a song for me. It was called ‘Seaside’ as he knew how fond and passionate I am about living in my home town of Hastings. The song made me cry. It perfectly portrayed the town, and I should imagine, EVERY seaside town. It also gave me the idea to make this album a celebration of all things coastal.

So many wonderful songs came flooding to mind, but I have chosen these 10 as they are very personal to me, incorporating songs about weather, being all at sea, love of course, despair, (of course) boats (I used to live on one 30 years ago) and inexcusable puns such as ‘Almost Like Being In Hove’ - I make no apologies!

3 Over the ensuing couple of months the wonderful producer and trumpeter James McMillan and I went to work, and as this was our third project together, we wanted to make it as special as possible. Recorded totally in Hastings at his Quiet Money Studios (now my second home!), I think we have produced a personal representation of living here.

There will be a couple of titles that may not seem to fit the seaside theme such as ‘Nobody’s Fault But Mine’ and ‘Get Me Through December’ but I first heard these songs whilst either walking along the prom or sitting on the pebbles (ouch!) and they had a massive impact on me at the time, and so I wanted them in.

With helping hands towards some of the arrangements by the incredible Evan Jolly and Malcolm Edmonstone, we have made my favourite album to date.

Being a spiritual but not religious person, I really wanted to finish the recording with a tribute to all the wonderful fishermen and women of Hastings, and subsequently all over the world, with the hymn ‘For Those In Peril On The Sea’ as I have sung it many times on the beach at services and celebrations for many years.

I hope you enjoy this album, and that it may bring back some memories of hot summer holidays, and brisk winter beach walks.

Love and peace,

Liane x x
