Discovering Fondi and its environs.

Town of Fondi is located on the homonymous plain. With its nearly 40,000 inhabitants, it is the main center of the south Pontine and is located exactly halfway between Rome and Naples (both reachable in just over an hour by car or by train).

Thanks to its fortunate position, but above all thanks to the generosity of the land and the mild climate of this area, Fondi has become one of the most important agri-food centers in Italy.

The fruit and vegetable market of Fondi is the largest in Europe, the food and wine tradition is of excellence and ranges from the products of the earth to cheeses, from meat to fish without forgetting the typical Italian pasta and pizza. In recent years, the wealth produced thanks to these activities has made Fondi a city in which people live very well and has made it possible to invest in other sectors, especially tourism. In the territory of Fondi and in its close vicinity there are countless points of historical and naturalistic interest.

The history of Fondi dates back to the 4th century. BC, when the Romans already built fortified settlements in this area. The Via Appia (the mother of all Roman roads) passed (and still passes today) from here.

Traces dating back to Roman times are scattered visible throughout the territory, among these the most important and evocative are the remains of the villa of the Emperor Tiberius, in Sperlonga, on the sea, where there is also a beautiful museum that tells of the presence of the emperor and shows many of his riches that were unearthed in 1960.

In the Middle Ages, Fondi was an important center. After the Normans and especially the Aragoneses, many of the most important Italian noble families owned it, Gonzaga, Colonna, Caetani. Thanks to its rich and important history, Fondi offers the visitor countless historical religious and civil architecture: the Cathedral of San Pietro (XIII century), THE church of Santa Maria (XV century), Palazzo Caetani (XIV century) and the Baronial Castle (XII century) just to name a few.

The whole historical center is very beautiful and suggestive. The main road that crosses it is the Ancient Via Appia. The ancient Jewish quarter is also very interesting. Today the historic center (almost all pedestrianized) has maintained its typically medieval appearance but has also become the ideal place to go for a quiet shopping among elegant shops or spend a pleasant evening among characteristic restaurants and more trendy clubs, with elegance and without too much confusion.

From a naturalistic point of view, Fondi offers many ideas. It is located in the Monti Aurunci Natural Park, a protected area that houses hundreds of fauna and flora species, close to the Parco dei Monti Ausoni and in its territory you can admire Lake Fondi, Lake Lungo and Lake San Puoto where are also played water sports.

And then there is the sea. The stretch of coast between Sperlonga and Fondi, up to Terracina is probably one of the most beautiful in Italy. On this stretch, beautiful beaches alternate with rocky stretches and caves. The water is crystal clear, hospitable and equipped establishments, large areas of free beach and so much excellent fish to be enjoyed in restaurants.

There are therefore many reasons to buy a second home in Fondi, especially for those coming from abroad who want to really experience Italy and not just to visit it as a tourist.

From here everything is handy, Rome, Naples, the sea, the mountains, the hills. From here you can choose every day between the quiet of the hinterland, the noisy and fun life of Terracina, the elegance and sophistication of Sperlonga.
