Statement of Vision & Purpose (Please check each box below that you’ve read the point, and initial each page read.)

The purpose of the South Beach Yacht Club is to form a sociable community of persons having common interests to promote yachting on San Francisco Bay, to provide a common bond for recreational boaters and their families, to sponsor and encourage yacht racing, to encourage family participation in boating, and to enjoy the beauty of San Francisco Bay and its environs.

The members of South Beach Yacht Club (SBYC) share the following vision and principals:

q An active interest in boating is a primary focus of SBYC.

q SBYC and its members actively participate in the San Francisco Bay Area community of boaters and in maritime activities and culture.

q SBYC does not discriminate against any person because of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, marital status, domestic partner status, or AIDS/HIV status.

q SBYC is a volunteer-based organization that requires the active involvement of all of its members.

q Special efforts are made to give SBYC a family focus and to introduce youth to sailing.

q SBYC members and their guests abide by the local, state and federal laws governing on and off water activities.

q SBYC, through its longstanding affiliation with BAADS (Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors) acknowledges a commitment to making club activities and boating accessible to persons with disabilities. All events and activities of the South Beach Yacht Club are open to and accessible to members and guests with disabilities. Insofar as possible, accommodations will be made to meet any special needs.

SBYC, through the actions of its members and officers, is helpful and cooperative with its residential and commercial neighbors insofar as possible.

Application Process Information

q Read and initial each page of this application package.

q Complete all areas on the application. Be sure all sponsor statements include signatures.

q Once all information is complete, the membership application package PLUS your check for the non-refundable $100 Application Fee, should be mailed or submitted to:

q Applicants should attend at least three (3) SBYC activities in order to get to know members And potential sponsors. Activities examples: clubhouse parties, race crewing, cruise outs, seminars, etc.

q The names and other designated information about the applicants shall be printed in the Wavelength and posted at the club.

q Final presentation of applications for review will be made by the Membership Controller or his/her designee to the Board of Directors for its approval.

q From time to time, SBYC may develop a waiting list for new members. In this event, completed applications will be processed in the order in which they are received.

q Completed application should be presented to primary sponsor. Primary sponsor is responsible for submitting completed application to Membership Controller.

4. Sponsors must verify applicant has received and reviewed the SBYC Statement of Vision and Purpose, and have a clear understanding of Club operating guidelines.

5. During the application submittal and review process, the nominating Sponsor should invite the applicant to attend at least one SBYC boating event and at least one other SBYC activity.
