CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS TENORES DE ATERÚE IN CONCERT Tenores de Aterúe (Avery Book, Gideon Crevoshay, Carl Linich, and Doug Paisley) came together in 2007 around a mutual fascination with music from the Mediterranean island of Sardinia. Accomplished singers each in their own right, they were entranced by the guttural sounds, overtones, and rhythmic precision of the traditional singing form called cantu a tenore, which has been deemed by UNESCO a “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity”. Thus began an obsession that has lasted nearly 10 years and taken the group many places.

The Tenores are the only ensemble outside of Sardinia that is dedicated to singing cantu a tenore music. In 2011 a video of their first public performance went viral on the island. m u s i c This led to the group traveling to Sardinia, where they spent nearly every waking hour learning informally from some of the masters of the tradition. They were also featured on Sardinian radio, television, and on festival stages throughout the island. DONATO SANTERAMO (Queen’s University) Dario Fo, together with Franca Rame, is conceivably the most performed playwright in the world. The 1997 Nobel Prize recipient wrote dozens of successful plays, theoretical and literary texts. He was also a world- renowned painter. However, more than anything else, he thought of himself as an actor/playwright. This said, Fo cannot be fitted into any of the contemporary existing artistic categories as he belonged to a l e c t theatrical “counter tradition”. In fact, the essential element of his dramaturgy is ideological. The talk will take a close look at the intertwining of Fo’s work with his life and times while emphasizing the international u r e s breadth of his opus. Thursday, November 24, 2016 - 6:30- 8:30pm
