! My Family! My Pride” - Family Day 2018

One of the most awaited events of the year is the Annual Family Day at KJP. The objective of this event is to build closer relationships between our students‟ families and also to raise funds for charity as we got along as one KJP Family. The Family Day, this year, was organised on the 3rd of March 2018. God blessed the day with won- derful weather and an upbeat atmos- phere brimming with excitement. The winning theme for this year was “Indonesia, My Family! My Pride!”

Chinese New Year Celebration

BBS KJP celebrated its Chinese New Year on 15th February 2018. The celebration took place in the School Assembly Hall be- tween 7.15 a.m. and 8.40 a.m. All the students and a few teachers from the Pre-School and the Primary School showcased their talents through various performances.

A banner bearing the image of a dog hung over the stage to commemorate 2018 as the Year of the Dog. The school was beautiful- ly decorated with red Chinese lanterns to light up the occasion. All students and teachers were attired in either “Cheong Sam” a Chinese traditional costume or red-coloured clothes to signify the Chinese traditions.

To entertain the audience gathered for the occasion, classes performed on stage a variety of programmes. For those who were waiting to perform, it was indeed a tense moment. Some of the astounding performances included a medley of children‟s song, powerful Kungfu fan -dance and the passionate drum-dance. These performances were followed by another sur- prising event wherein some of the teachers sang Chinese songs. Ms Vaasuhi and Madam Pan joined along to sing “Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo de Xin” in their melodious voices. Apart from this host of events, we also had lucky draws in between the performances. After the celebration in the Hall, we, the students, were asked to assemble in the court- yard to watch the Barongsai, the mighty and rhythmic Lion Dance. A highlight of this show was that we could throw Hong Bao, red enve- lopes with money inside, into the Lion‟s mouth. The Lion did not cease to entertain the audi- ence by showing its amazing movements on the tall tables. All of us, irrespective of age, children and adults, were thrilled to watch the Lion jump jubilantly up and down and display various movements. After the show, the stu- dents took pictures with the Lion to capture their pleasant memories.

I, as one of the students, created great memories and learnt more about the Chinese New Year through this celebration. I also thanked all my teachers and the Chinese de- partment for organising this event. I am excit- edly looking forward to next year‟s Chinese New Year Celebrations!

The story is about Malin Kun- dang, a poor young man who went out from his village to change his life. He worked very hard and became a rich man.
