The Honourable Grant R. Dow

The Honourable Grant R. Dow is currently a judge of the Superior Court of Justice ( Region), having been appointed in January of 2015.

Grant R. Dow attended Brockville Collegiate Institute from 1971 to 1975. While a student Mr. Dow was a member of the senior basketball and football teams as well as a member of the Brockville Bunnies Baseball team for four years. Upon his graduation from BCI in 1975 Mr. Dow was an Scholar and received a number of academic prizes and awards.

Following his graduation Mr. Dow went on to achieve a Bachelor of Arts (Distinction) from Brock University and then his Bachelor of Law from the University of Western Ontario in 1981. He was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1983.

Mr. Justice Dow had been a partner with Flaherty Dow Elliott & McCarthy since 1994 and was an associate with Gilbert Wright & Flaherty from 1983 to 1988, and partner from 1988 to 1994. While there, he practiced insurance law, personal injury and motor vehicle litigation. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Medical Legal Society, The Advocates Society, the Metropolitan Toronto Law Association and the Durham Law Association. Outside his working life Mr. Justice Dow is a long time supporter of the Brockville Bunnies Baseball team as well as the Brock University Golf team. As a member of the CBA/MLA The Advocates Society he has been a frequent speaker and panelist.

Dan Healey

In March of 1974 Dan Healey was a student member of BCI teacher John Ballachey’s school trip to the USSR. This trip proved pivotal and set Mr. Healey on a lifelong interest in Russia, its people and history.

Professor Dan Healey currently teaches Modern Russian History at St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford, a position he has held since 2013. Prior to his appointment at Oxford, Professor Healy taught at both Reading and Swansea Universities.

Dan Healey attended Brockville Collegiate Institute from 1971 to 1975. During his time at BCI Mr. Healey was heavily involved in the school’s Theater Arts program which he credits with helping him develop a cultural education. Following high school Mr. Healey earned a Bachelor of Arts (1981), Russian Language and Literature from the University of Toronto. Subsequent to this he went on to earn a MA (1993) Soviet Area Studies at the University of then a MA (1993) History from the University of Toronto. He completed his PhD in 1998 in History also at the University of Toronto.

Professor Healey has an ongoing interest in LGBT issues. He was chair of Gays at the University of Toronto from 1979 to 1981. He was a volunteer on the Right to Privacy Committee, Toronto from 1981 to 1983 and a member of the Sexual Diversity Studies Minor Committee also at the University of Toronto. LGBT issues have also been a focus of Professor Healey’s academic work and his many publications and he continues to do community outreach work in this area.
