Notes for John Reid: John Reid was a gardener employed at Blairhill, Parish of Muckhart, Perthshire, Scotland. His employer's name was Haig. His cottage name was Coupsteps and he may have moved from that to Drumburn around 1841. He had a stroke of palsy and was helpless for about four or five years.

In July, 1983, Mr. & Mrs. Roger S. Reid Jr. (Margaret) visited Scotland, visited Coupsteps and had a tour of Blairhill by the current owner, The Honorable Mrs. David Bruce. We saw the gravestones of the Haigs, the owners when John and William Reid were employed as gardeners. We toured the area guided by two Reid sisters, Alice and Ina, (not related to us according to Alice), who arranged the visit to Blairhill and Coupsteps. Photos were taken. We were not able to locate any gravestones for our ancestors.

Notes for John Reid: In 1833, John worked for a family friend, William Cousins, in Saline; Was residing in Dunfermline, Fife, in 1836, was working as a carpenter in 1851 according to the census, and later as a journeyman with an iron company in 1853

Notes for Mary Elizabeth Reid: According to notes in History of The Reid Family by Donald U. Reid, dated January 26, 1930, Mary Elizabeth Reid died July, 1892 Albany, NY. " She had apoplexy and was paralyzed".

1870 Federal Census showed her living with her mother, Mary, and sister Margaret at 133 ______, Albany, NY, listing her name as Elizabeth, and her age as 33 and occupation as "at house".

She married Arthur Silliman Hubbell, son of Uriah Hubbell and Sally Sterling on 22 Nov 1864 in Albany, New York, USA. He was born on 04 Oct 1842 in Black Rock, Connecticut. Notes for Hellen Louisa Reid: Hellen’s name is spelled with double L in several censuses.

In 1870 Federal Census she is listed as Hellyn Hubbell, wife of Arthur Hubbell, living in Albany, NY with 3 yr. old son, Arthur. Next door is her mother, Mary Reid, age 62, living with daughters Margaret, tailoress, age 35, and Elizabeth, "at house", age 33.

Notes for Arthur Silliman Hubbell: Pencil note on RS Reid's copy of "History of Hubbell Family" D.U. Reid Feb. 24, 1930 says that Arthur "died in Norwich, Connecticut per family bible."

In 1870 Federal Census he was living with wife "Hellyn" in Albany, NY, with occupation listed as "Book-Keeper" Hellen Louisa Reid and Arthur Silliman Hubbell had the following child: i. ARTHUR JAMES HUBBELL was born on 02 Sep 1866 in Albany, New York, USA. He died about 1914 in New York, USA. He married ORESTA WEST.

Notes for Arthur James Hubbell: Died in New York City about 48 years old of locomotor ataxia. He was a salesman, who one year sold more typewriters than anyone in NYC, according to handwritten note in History of Reid Family by Donald U. Reid.

11. JAMES RODGERS4 REID (James3, John2, John1) was born on 06 Sep 1845 in Albany, New York, USA. He died on 16 Jan 1876 in Albany, New York, USA. He married Harriet E Udell, daughter of Abram Udell and Catherine Mather on 14 Apr 1864. She was born on 25 Sep 1847 in Franklin, New York, USA. She died on 08 Sep 1918 in Syracuse, Onondaga, New York, USA.

Notes for Harriet E Udell: LDS Ancestral file has her name as Hattie E. Udell, with same birth and marriage dates (to James R. Reid), but show her location "of Niagra Falls, Niagra, New York”.

1880 Federal Census lists her name as "Hattie" living on Hudson Avenue, Albany, NY with her two sons Frank, age 15, and Chester, age 8, along with her mother Catherine Udell, age 58. Hattie's occupation listed as " keeps boarders" and lists several boarders' names.

She moved to Syracuse, New York with her two sons sometime after her first husband’s death in 1876. James Rodgers Reid and Harriet E Udell had the following children: i. FRANKLIN EDSON5 REID was born on 01 May 1865 in Albany, New York, USA. He died on 02 Jun 1944 in Syracuse, Onondaga, New York, USA. He married Mary Agnes Owen on 17 Jul 1887 in Syracuse, Onondaga, New York, USA. She was born on 10 Jan 1867 in Albany, New York, USA. She died (Y).

ii. CHESTER UDELL REID was born on 07 Sep 1872 in Albany, New York, USA. He died on 15 Oct 1929 in Syracuse, Onondaga, New York, USA. He married Mary Ann Hubbell, daughter of Augustus Sterling Hubbell and Abigail B Morehouse on 14 Dec 1892 in Southport, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA. Notes for Chester Udell Reid: Was a bookkeeper with Moyer Carriage Co. later Moyer Automobile located on Wolf Street, Syracuse, NY. His employer, Mr. Moyer lived at the corner of 1st North and Bear Streets. Syracuse, NY. Chester built the family home at 1312 First North St. Syracuse, NY. According to Althea Dick, Roger S. Reid Jr.'s aunt, Chester had a stroke after his daughter Grace died in an auto accident near Atlantic City, NJ, and later died of a heart attack. iii. JAMES RODGERS REID JR. was born on 03 Sep 1875 in Albany, New York, USA. He died in 1876 in Albany, New York, USA.
