PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

Fairborn City provides a variety of high quality experiences for children ages 3-5. The programs adhere to a developmentally appropriate that is research based and aligned to Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards. Instructional strategies are individualized in accordance with the diverse needs, abilities, interests and backgrounds of the children. Encouraging each ’s self worth is an important part of the learning process. involvement is a strong focus of our program. All programs are licensed through the Ohio Department of . All certified staff have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Early Childhood or Early Childhood Education.

Early Childhood Education Program

The FCS Early Childhood Education Program is located at Fairborn Primary . The program provides a classroom based preschool program that is open to the community. The majority of are typically developing with some students receiving itinerant special education services. A sliding scale is provided for families. Students who are at least 3 years of age and not eligible for are welcome to apply. Students must be toilet trained.

The preschool class meets Monday through Thursday for 3 hours and 10 minutes, morning and afternoon. The morning session is from 8:30 a.m. -11:40 a.m. The afternoon session is from 12:15 p.m. – 3:25 p.m. No classes are held on Fridays. The uses this day for preschool screenings, meetings, team meetings, program planning/development, parent conferences, and staff development activities.

Early Childhood Special Education Services

The FCS Preschool Program located at Fairborn Primary School provides special education services through both itinerant services and centerbased preschool services. Both services are free to children 3-5 years of age who qualify for special education services.

Centerbased preschool classes: Our classes include both children with disabilities and typically- developing peers. An early intervention specialist and teacher assistant are responsible for each class of children. Children from the community are invited to register as tuition students for a nominal fee. Typically developing students must be toilet trained. Students with special needs are enrolled after an evaluation by the Special Education Department. Related therapy services, including but not limited to, speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, adapted and transportation are provided to children as indicated in their IEP.

The preschool class meets Monday through Thursday for 2 1/2 hours, morning and afternoon. The morning session is from 9:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m. The afternoon session is from 12:45 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. No classes are held on Fridays. The use this day for preschool screenings, assessments, IEP meetings, team meetings, program planning/development, parent conferences, and staff development activities.

Itinerant services: Itinerant special education services are available to identified students who are attending community preschool programs or whose prefer they receive services within their home. These services include, but are not limited to: direct services to the , consultation and coaching to teachers/parents/support staff, technical assistance, and sharing of resources.
