Galion Primary 478 Portland Way North Galion, Ohio 44833 TEL: 419-468-4010 www.galionschools.org Dear Families: Welcome to Galion ….

Having a start kindergarten brings about change for the whole family. It is a new experience for families whether this is your first child or your last child. I would like to invite you to a classroom meeting on August 24 at 1:30 if your child’s last name ends with letters A-M, or August 25 at 1:30 if your child’s last name ends with letters N-Z. This will be an opportunity for you to learn about the classroom, the , and our school. During this time, you may drop off school supplies, pay school fees, put money on your child’s lunch account, and/or drop off any last minute paperwork. You may also drop these things off during the time that your child is scheduled for testing. Please continue to check www.galionschools.org and / or the Galion Primary School Facebook page for additional updates. Here are some reminders: • August 21, 22 and 23 will be used as testing days for our kindergarten . You have already scheduled a 45-minute time slot on one of the days listed. During this time, we will assess your child. This information will give us a better picture of where your child is to start the new school year. This is a very important time, so please do not miss it. If you forget the time you signed for, please contact the school. • The next two days, August 24 and 25, the students will be divided into two groups for a staggered start. We would like the students whose last names begin with A-M to attend on August 24. Students whose last names begin with N-Z should attend on August 25. On your child’s assigned day, we ask that come to the school at 1:30 to meet with . This will give teachers an opportunity to share information with you about their classroom, homework, lunch procedures, arrival and dismissal procedures, and answer any other questions you may have. Students will leave with parents when the meeting is over. • August 28 will be the first full day that all kindergarten students attend together.

Emergency Medical Authorization forms are available online and should be turned in as soon as possible. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have this information filled out with all available phone numbers. This will also be distributed the first day of school along with other forms. If you have not done so already, please bring up-to-date immunization records, a copy of the birth certificate, social security number, and/or custody papers to or your scheduled staggered day. Kindergarten fees for the 2017/18 school year are $32.00. These fees pay for your child’s workbooks and other consumable supplies. The school day will begin at 8:50 and end at 3:45. This means the tardy bell will ring at 8:50 and walkers will be dismissed around 3:45. The building will not open until 8:30 so please do not drop your child off before that time as supervision is unavailable and students will not be allowed in the building until 8:30. Although the Primary School is NOT wearing school uniforms this year, please note there is a dress code policy in place. It is clearly outlined in the handbook, which is located online on the district website. The Primary school offers breakfast for $1.30 for each student who arrives by 8:50. If your child qualifies for free or reduced lunch, then breakfast will be free. Breakfast is not served to students arriving after 8:50 or on days when there is a 2-hour delay. We use a point of sale system for lunch, which simply means you or your child can make deposits into his/her personal lunch account. You may do so on line or send money with your child. Each day your child eats lunch or breakfast; the cost ($1.30 for breakfast or $2.70 for lunch or $.40 for reduced lunch) will be deducted from his/her account. When the balance gets low, you will be notified so you can add more money to the account. Feel free to pay a week or more at a time. Kindergarten class lists will be posted outside the building before the first day of school. Communication and parental involvement continue to be very important for your child’s growth and development. We encourage you to get involved with your child’s learning and to stay informed. There are many ways parents can help to ensure their child’s educational success. We encourage you to attend school events, monitor schoolwork and assignments, and become involved in the district parent teacher organization. Please encourage your child to ask for help and to ask questions for clarification as needed. We hope you will stay involved and monitor their daily activities and progress through the Tiger Folder and student agendas. If you have any questions concerning transportation, please call the Transportation Department at 419- 468-3432 at ext. 11022. If you have moved since you registered, you will need to notify the transportation department of any changes. I look forward to working with you this school and hope that your child has a great year.

See you soon! Mrs. Melisa Watters Primary School Principal
