BRIEFING NOTE To: All Councillors From: Acting General Manager, Brian Barrett Date: 3 March 2021 Subject: Fortnightly update

Councillors, Below is the fortnightly update for 3 March 2021.

Community Wellbeing

Street Count – 22 February Council conducted the annual homelessness street count across the LGA on Monday 22 February, midnight - 2am, in partnership with Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, NSW Police, Department of Communities and Justice, Wesley Mission and Exodus Foundation.

Significantly fewer people sleeping rough (15) were found during this year’s count, across the . It is probable that street homelessness is higher than the street count numbers suggest, but with six years of data the downward trend from average of 30 is encouraging.

Council has developed a short course for Inner West residents who want to find out more about homelessness and simple ways they can help. Click to access the course here

Mardi Gras – Feel the Love To celebrate Mardi Gras, Council in partnership with the LGBTIQ Working group raised Rainbow flags across the Inner West and unveiled a plaque to commemorate the permanent rainbow chalk crossing at Summer Hill. The event was attended by 50 community members. A heart-warming short film about acceptance, inclusion and connection was launched on the night.

#RacismNOTwelcome This campaign is gaining significant traction. Inner West, the first Council to join installed 40 signposts across the LGA. Now, Waverley and City of have resolved to join the campaign with other councils across NSW noting interest and expected to follow.

International Women’s Day (IWD) Council is celebrating IWD with projections celebrating women and girls at Marrickville Library mezzanine level and Ashfield Service Centre – east facing wall, from sunset to midnight Saturday 6 March - Monday 15 March.
