MECCANO FULLY AUTOMATED ROTAWHEELS FAIRGROUND RIDE by Michael Moore

The two wheels are 26 feet in diameter and are pivoted one at each end of a steel boom which has its main axle 42 feet from the ground. As the boom revolves so do the two wheels in the same direction and at the same speed. When the boom is dead upright the top of the uppermost wheel is 90 feet from the ground. The maximum speed is 20 miles per hour and of the sixteen cars carries two passengers.

The model stands 4 feet high on an 18.5” by 12.5” base. Journaled 26” above

floor level at the apexes of 2 ‘A’ frames is a double arm boom of 28” diameter carrying at each extremity a 16” diameter wheel. The double arm boom is driven by a base mounted motor via reduction gearing and sprocket chain and by means of suitable gearing and shafting. The main wheels contra-rotate with respect to the double arm. THEBUZZ

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH NOTES

Again the village has had another case of someone just walking in to a house but was sent off by the householder before anything happened. It's still a shock to find a total stranger appearing in your home. Once they are out, could you rush out to see where they went, and then dial 999 ? I have had more phone scams reported to me. Your bank wants to call round and collect your credit cards ! Why? They don't do that ! It's not the bank. Put the phone down. The police phone wanting to call round. What ? By appointment ? So tell them they must -- be in uniform; give their name now; produce their identification and say which police station they are coming from. They aren't the police at all. Put the phone down. And if someone unknown comes knocking at your door, Don't just let them in. Get identification first. Don't phone the number they give you ! Call a ADULT AND KIDS neighbour or dial 999. BOUNCY CASTLES Keep safe. Summer is coming, we hope. SUMO WRESTLING SUITS Enjoy the open gardens on Sunday June 19th. We'll be keeping a lookout. SURPRISE FOR SISTER FREDA’S 70TH BIRTHDAY! The team also had a good run in the cup playing against much higher ranked players and only just losing out in their semi-final 3-2. This was a highly creditable performance. Next season will hopefully see us enter a second team into the league. Not forgetting all the other members who have greatly improved and become competitive, new members who join are caught up with the enthusiasm within the club on our sessions which are held every Tuesday afternoon from 2.00pm. Freda was quite content to have a McDonald’s and do some shopping for her

70th with youngest daughter, Yvonne. But during the morning of her birthday, Freda received a telephone call saying there had been a delay but not to worry she would still be going out! Time passed and another phone call said that she should have something to eat but daughter would be with her in half an hour. By this time mum was not a happy bunny and said that if nothing was happening very soon it would be too late anyway! It wasn’t long before 2 cars pulled up outside Freda’s home. She soon understood why there had been a delay. In one car was sister Sandra with a niece, Lena from North London. In the second car was her two youngest sisters, Gloria with husband Ray from Lowestoft, and sister, Linda, Alan Quilter, Jimmy Rickett and Audrey Bewes (already had txt wishing Freda a Happy Birthday) with husband Brian from Great Yarmouth. Victor Stewart Bickle was born in June 1946 in Stratton, a stone’s throw from where he lives today some sixty nine years later. Vic’s family was mum, dad, 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Sadly mum and dad, 4 brothers and 2 sisters have now passed away. He attended Stratton Primary School and at the appropriate time transferred to Stratton Secondary Modern School. His parents were regular attenders of Stratton Chapel and Vic was always encouraged to attend Sunday school. Vic did not always conform at Sunday school and was known to encourage others to do the same. One day whilst watching his parents black and white television Vic saw Hank Marvin of the famous Shadows playing the guitar. Vic made it plain to his parents that this was what he wanted to do. Dad didn’t think there was any money in playing music and told his son so. Undeterred, Vic began a paper round before going to school earning 7/6 a week and delivering groceries after school earning 12/6 a week. Dad was an insurance clerk and requested that Vic used some of his earned money on an insurance policy and after paying towards his lodgings he could save 50p each week which later would pay for his first guitar. His parents were not amused with this purchase and the only place he was

allowed to practice this much wanted instrument was in an outside toilet, with the use of a candle when it got dark! Each night at 9.00pm mum .

Time passed and another phone call said that she should have something to eat but daughter would be with her in half an hour. By this time mum was not a happy bunny and said that if nothing was happening very soon it would be too late anyway! It wasn’t long before 2 cars pulled up outside Freda’s home.

THEBUZZ
