JOURNEY TO SACRED IRELAND September 23 – October 1, 2021

Thursday September 23rd Depart USA Today we will catch an overnight flight to Ireland! Your journey of the Emerald Isle awaits…

Friday September 24th Arrive in – Head towards Sligo This morning we arrive in Dublin Airport. Once you go through passport control, you will collect your bags and head towards the arrivals area. Here you will be met by a friendly Irish tour director who will take you to your coach.

As we venture towards Sligo, we will stop for breakfast along the way. Our first stop is in County Westmeath. The is an ancient ceremonial site. The site consists of a set of monuments and earthworks spread over 2km.

We will then make our way to Visitor Centre, which is located in County Roscommon. Here we will take a tour of the exhibition center and learn about Ireland’s ancient past. Rathcroghan is the oldest and largest unexcavated Royal Site in Europe. The festival of (Halloween) is said to have originated here.

We now make out way to The Clayton Hotel just outside Sligo town. Once checked in, refreshed and relaxed, we will meet in the hotel restaurant for a group dinner. Accommodation: The Clayton Hotel Sligo

Saturday September 25th This morning following breakfast in the hotel, we will make our way to the Marble Arch Caves in County . They are a series of natural limestone caves. The caves are formed from three rivers draining off the northern slopes of mountain, which combine underground to form the Claddagh.

Our next stop is at the Hill of the Fairies in Knocknashee. Knocknashee is one of Ireland’s largest Bronze Age Hillforts. Two large are located within a huge enclosure which covers the flat summit of the mountain of Knocknashee. This 1km guide walk takes us through a private working farm to a steep grassy slope to the Stone Age Cairns.

We finish the day with a trip to Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery. Monuments found here range from 5,000- 5,800 years ago. Visitors are advised to wear shoes suitable for walking on uneven terrain. Archaeologists have recorded over 60tombs to which 30 are visible. Once we return to Sligo, you are free to spend the evening as you please. Accommodation: The Clayton Hotel Sligo

Sunday September 26th SlieveLeague This morning after breakfast, we will depart Sligo early and travel towards Derry.

As we depart Sligo, we can view the amazing Cassiebawn . It is the former summer home of Lord Mountbatten.

We will then spend the afternoon at SlieveLeague. Standing at the top of the magnificent cliffs, it feels like you’re at the very edge of the world. The highest point is 609m above sea level and you can view the swirling Atlantic Ocean below.

We will then continue on our journey to Derry. We will then check into our hotel. We may have a group healing event this evening. If this does not happen, you are free to spend the evening as you please. Accommodation: The City Hotel Derry

Monday September 27th National Park This morning after breakfast in the hotel, we make our way to Glenveagh National Park (Mount ). Whilst travelling here, we will be able to view the Old Church of . Glenveagh is the second largest national park in Ireland. The park is home to the largest herd of red deer and the formerly extirpated golden eagle was reintroduced into the park in 2000. The park covers 170 square kilometers of hillside above on the shore of Lough Veagh.

Our next stop is . The Stone Fort of Grianan of Aileach sits on a hilltop in (). It lies 250m above sea level, the stone fort was probably built on an earthen rath. The origins of the fort are dated back to 1700BC. It is thought St. Patrick visited the site in the 5th century and baptized the local chieftain ‘Eoghan’ (Owen) here.

After that busy day, you are free to spend the evening as you wish in Derry. There may also be a group healing event this evening, to be confirmed. Accommodation: The City Hotel Derry

This morning you are free to roam around the city of Derry. We may also have a group healing event (tbc). We depart Derry and now head to . The iconic ruin of Dunluce Castle bears witness to a long and tumultuous history. It was built in the cliffs of north by the MacQuilan family around 1500. A local legend states that at one point, part of the kitchen next to the cliff face collapsed into the sea, after which the wife of the owner refused to live in the castle any longer.

Our next stop is to visit the Giant’s Causeway, (one of the filming sites for the series “Game of Thrones”) an amazing geologic formation of approx. 40,000 basalt stone – some as tall as 130 feet, and mostly hexagonal in shape. We will also visit the Dark Hedges, a location famous for its use in Game of Thrones.

We will then check into our hotel in Ballycastle. Here we will enjoy a group dinner together in the hotel. Accommodation: The Marine Hotel Ballycastle

Wednesday September 29th Fort This morning, after breakfast and check-out, we make our journey to . Located in County , Navan fort is considered to be one of the great royal sites of pre-Christian . In a ritual act, this timber structure was filled with stones, deliberately burnt down and then covered with earth to create the mound which stands today. It is believed that Navan was a pagan ceremonial site and was regarded as a sacred space.

Our last stop of the day is to St. Patrick’s Cathedral. It was built between 1840 and 1904. The interior and exterior design of this building is fascinating.

We then check-in to the Armagh City Hotel. We may have a group healing event, if time allows. Here, we will enjoy a group dinner together. Accommodation: Armagh City Hotel

Thursday September 30th Hill of Faughart This morning, we will have a group breakfast in the hotel. We then make our way to St. ’s Birthplace & Holy Well. St. Brigid was born in Faughart, County Louth, in 451 AD. St. Brigid’s Day is celebrated on the 1st of February every year. She is considered to be one of Ireland’s patron saints, along with St. Patrick.

After our visit to Faughart, we will head to or . *Both places are subject to availability. Due to time restraints, it is not feasible to visit both sites.

Once we have completed our stops for the day, we will check into our hotel and enjoy a group dinner that evening.

Friday October 1st This morning after breakfast, we will make our way to the . The Hill of Tara is located in . It is an ancient ceremonial and burial site. According to tradition, it was the inauguration place and seat of the High Kings of Ireland. Tara consists of numerous monuments and earthworks. Ireland’s is a 4,500-year-old structure.

Our next stop of the day is Trim Castle in County Meath. It was constructed over a 30-year period. This massive twenty-sided tower, which is cruciform in shape, was protected by a ditch, curtain wall and moat.

Our lovely driver will drop you into Dublin City. You are free to spend the afternoon as you wish. Henry Street and Grafton Street offer a wide variety of shops. On Henry Street, you will find The Jervis Center. There are shops to accommodate all in there. If you wish to do something touristy, why not check out the Guinness Storehouse, Croke Park, Trinity College and much more…

On your last night in Ireland, you will then be brought back to your hotel where you can drop your bags and freshen up! You will then meet in the lobby and board the bus for the Abbey Tavern Dublin! Here you will see a world-famous show of the best of Irish tradition music and dance. Be mesmerized and thrilled by the dancer’s footwork and passion as they perform some of Ireland’s oldest dance routines. Accommodation Roganstown Hotel & Country Club

Saturday October 1st Return to US To finish off this tour, enjoy one last Irish breakfast in the hotel. We will then head for Dublin Airport where you will board your flight back to the U.S. You will have to go through emigration in the airport. This means when you land back in the U.S., you can walk straight out into the arrival’s hall. We hope you had a memorable trip! Ireland is waiting for you to return!
