Head’s Corner

At last … Lammas joins Griffin Schools Trust!

Almost two years ago, after initial research, the Governors of our school made a decision to progress their planning for Lammas to become an and join the Griffin Schools Trust. After significant delays due to the General Election in 2017, this moved on to the formal consultation in autumn 2017 and a final decision to go ahead was made in January 2018. Since then, a very lengthy legal process has gone on in the background involving the local authority, our PFI partners and the Trust.

On behalf of the Governors of Lammas School and Sixth Form and Griffin Schools Trust, I am delighted to announce that the legal process has now been completed and that Lammas will join the Griffin family of schools on 1st December 2018. This has been a long time coming but this means we can now proceed with our strong partnership working with Willow Brook and Riverley Primary schools to ensure that, together, we provide the very best opportunities for the children across all 3 schools. We will also benefit from the great additional opportunities provided across the Trust in Science, Sport, Music, Performance and the Arts in general.

The Griffin Schools Trust is founded on the common pillars of Proud Traditions, Wide Horizons and High Achievement and these are very similar to our school’s values and vision. GST has a track record of creating and providing very broad opportunities for students that consistently focus on these pillars. This has enabled both local primaries to become Outstanding since joining GST. We are keen to build on this success and to have the support of the Trust in expanding our Sixth Form provision and facilities.

Joining the Griffin family of schools does not mean that Lammas will stop working in partnership with all other local schools; this will continue to be the case for both students and staff. There will be many opportunities to hear more about this exciting development for our school in the coming weeks and months.

Lammas School and Sixth Form Communication Arrangements Important information for Parents and Carers

Paperless school - Year 7 Trial Over the past few months the school has been running this advert encouraging parents and carers to sign up to and use the My Ed app, which is used as a means of quickly informing and updating parents and carers of any issues affecting their child in school. The app which is free is the most cost effective, quick, easy and secure way to keep you informed of issues generally but more importantly enables us to inform you of any particular issues that may be affecting your child straight to your mobile phone. From 1st January 2019 as part of a trial school communication, Year 7 students will only be sent out information using the My Ed app. There will be no more paper letters to parents and carers and should the trial progress as expected the whole school will go paperless from 1st March 2019. It is therefore important that all parents and carers download and start using the My Ed app now by going to www.myedschoolapp.com or by visiting the school office, between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30 am to 3:30 pm Friday, where we would be happy to help you sign up. By moving to this paperless system we will be saving money that can be better used on your child’s education and it will enable us to communicate with you much more quickly and effectively. Thank you for your support.

Remembrance Sunday Parade

‘My name is Deniz Topal (Year 8, Yellow 6) and I have recently joined the local Army Cadets! The Cadets is a great place to learn about the basics of Army life. It’s not just about the Army but also life, discipline and respect.

On Sunday 11th of November, my unit: Unit 35, took part in the Remembrance Sunday parade. It started in Coronations Garden where we gathered to pay our respect to all those who lost their lives in WW1. We were joined by different groups like the Navy Cadets, Air Cadets and Scouts. We then marched in the parade along Leyton High Road. After the parade and service we were invited for lunch with the Royal British Legion, on Dunton Road.

I had a really good time meeting and speaking to different people. My parents came to watch and were very proud. You can join the cadets once you are in Year 8 and I would really recommend it to everyone.’

PE WEEKLY BULLETIN

WEEK COMMENCING 26/11/18

On Monday 19th November our Year 7 boys football team were crowned Waltham Forest 5-a-side champions. There were 8 competing schools who all played each other in a round robin league. The top 4 teams went through to the semi-finals. The boys won 5 and lost 2 of their games which meant they came 2nd. This left a semi-final clash with where we were victorious 4-2. A final was awaiting for the boys against the unbeaten Heathcote team. In a very close encounter we were trailing with a minute to go when we were awarded a penalty. Nathan Constable Woodley calmly stepped up to slot the ball home making the score 2-2. This was the final score which meant the competition would be decided on penalties. To the delight of the boys with Ayman Assas having scored and Edgar saving two, Edgar had the opportunity to win the tournament. Without a doubt Edgar fired into the corner of the net to crown Lammas as Year 7 champions and we will now go through to the London regionals to represent Waltham Forest.

Well done to Aritas, Edgar, Ayman, Samy, Radoslav, Abdul and Nathan

Scored the winning penalty after saving two! LAMMAS AT WEMBLEY

On Thursday 15th November, 19 Lammas students went to watch England take on the USA at Wembley. For many students it was their first time watching a professional International match and more so at the home of football, Wembley. It was a great occasion where Wayne Rooney played his last game for England having a testimonial for all his achievements in an England Shirt. The students were treated with 2nd row seats behind the goal which meant they were up close to some of their idols. England were triumphant winning 3-0! FIXTURES RESULTS
