Applications will need to be made via Willowfield Humanities College, the lead school in a partnership of nine Waltham Forest Secondary Schools comprising the Waltham Forest Secondary Schools Partnership: Willowfield Humanities College Walthamstow School for Girls Norlington School for Boys Holy Family Catholic School and Sixth Form George Mitchell All Through School Kelmscott School George Mitchell All Through School Frederick Bremer Specialist Engineering College The Lammas School All schools in the partnership have a wealth of experience of mentoring and training trainee teachers as well as developing our trainees throughout their teaching career towards leadership roles in our schools. We have well established links and many years of experience of working with in partnership with our two Providers - The Institute of Education and The University of East London. We work closely together on a range of CPD and subject based initiatives as a well established and long standing partnership for the benefit of our students. We have successfully run a programme of leadership and CPD which aims to retain and train staff throughout their career in Waltham Forest schools and have a highly successful record of developing teachers in leadership roles within the borough. Willowfield Humanities Colleges as Lead School is also part of the Waltham Forest Teaching School Alliance and was formerly a Training School. Involved in the School Direct scheme since its inception, Willowfield has enabled its pilot cohort (2012/13)to gain employment in local schools and the current cohort (2013/14) is successfully underway. We have a successful rate of employment of school direct trainees in local schools. All schools in the partnership will be involved in the interview process and placement schools for each of the subject placements will be determined during the summer term based on the requirements of each of the partner schools and the personalised needs of our applicants to enable a rounded experience across the range of experiences that Waltham Forest schools can provide. All schools offer a supportive environment in which to train. Working with the staff and students of Waltham Forest schools is an enjoyable and highly rewarding experience. We aim to train highly skilled and adaptable teachers with a wealth of knowledge and experience in teaching and learning, subject specialism and wider school based issues and experiences. WALTHAM FOREST SECONDARY SCHOOLS PARTNERSHIP Each trainee will be working in a highly experienced subject department during each of their school placements. Assigned a Subject Mentor, who will offer support and guidance as gradual induction into teaching is undergone, trainees will be fully supported every step of the way. A senior member of staff (Coordinating Professional Mentor) will offer further support and guidance on a range of teaching and learning strategies and wider educational issues. Successful applicants will complete two teaching placements in borough schools. The first will run from October to January and the second will run from February to June. GRANTS AND FEES Current information can be found via this link: http://www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching/funding/postgraduate-funding.aspx ELIGIBILITY FOR APPLICATION All School Direct trainees will be training alongside PGCE students and tutors at either UEL or IOE as well as undertaking school placements, therefore, we are looking for high calibre applicants. General entry requirements for PGCE programmes ELIGIBILITY A relevant first degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject GCSE A-C in maths and English (or equivalent The candidate must have a suitable degree or equivalent before starting the course At least 5 days in school experience in a secondary school in the subject area you wish to teach. A high quality supporting statement Two good references from an academic referee and current employer Skills tests in numeracy and literacy before commencement of course (preference may be given to Those who have already passed the skills tests when assessing candidates for interview) Right to work in the UK. Students may undertake the Non-salaried route without this, but will not be eligible for student loans. IOE will check all applicants details. Candidates must have a suitable level of health to teach. For Non-Salaried students the partner university will check all applicants Candidates must apply for a DBS check and be suitable for teaching. The candidate needs to complete the check before the start of the course For Non-Salaried students the IoE will check all applicants Specific entry requirements and selection for interview criteria for each subject area can be found on the UCAS application system. Applicants should be aware that the schools operate Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures on all applicants during interview and the application process. The candidates need to meet these requirements by the time the course starts. School Direct trainees must be at least as strong as other candidates accepted on the PGCE programme. SELECTION FOR INTERVIEW CRITERIA Coherent and well-presented application Suitable academic profile for the specialist subject Adequate experience with (usually) at least 5 days recent and relevant experience in a school setting Two references from appropriate people, one of which should be an academic reference relating to a first degree if the applicant graduated less than five years ago.
