But I see the cherry trees are coming into blossom and the daffodils were resplendent for St David’s Day so the Easter holidays will soon arrive and it will nearly be public exam time too, this year seems to have flashed bye so far and I sometimes struggle to keep pace. I am delighted to be able to tell you that we have a new Parent Governor; Ms Babs Pierre who has a son in Year 7 and we hope a daughter joining us in September in the next Year 7. She is a welcome addition to our school Governors, joining us with lots of experience of school governorship in the LB of Newham. I’m sure everyone will join me in welcoming her and we look forward to her future contributions to making Lammas even better. I have to, with some personal sadness, inform you that former Councillor and Mayor of Waltham Forest, Mr Tarsem Bohgal has tendered his resignation from the Governing Body with immediate effect. His resignation is prompted by personal circumstances and I have on behalf of the Governors accepted his resignation whilst thanking him for his time and effort that he has put into helping the school aspire to its potential. -

The partnership About Challenge Partners Challenge Partners is a practitioner-led education charity that enables collaborative school improvement networks to enhance the life chances of all children, especially the most disadvantaged. Challenge Partners was formed to continue the learning which emerged from the development of Teaching Schools that evolved out of the London Challenge. Since its formation in 2011, the outcomes for pupils in Challenge Partners schools have consistently improved faster than the national average. We provide networks and programmes that facilitate sustainable collaboration and challenge between schools in order to underpin improvements in outcomes which would not be possible for a school, or group of schools, to achieve as effectively on its own. -

YEAR 1 FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD The children in Year 1 started their new year with the topic; Food, Glorious, Food. They had a banquet when the children brought in traditional foods and they wore traditional clothes. A fun time was had by all. YEAR 2—LONDON’S BURNING The children in Year 2 have been learning about the Great Fire of London. They made some Tudor style homes and then watched as they burnt. Next week they will be have a visit from the fire brigade to help them learn more about fire safety , but also how different the Fire Brigade is now from the past. -

George Mitchell School Times Winter 2018 Eton scholarship offers Hasan great opportunity POLITICS enthusiast Hasan Patel has completed a remarkable year by winning OFFER: a £76,000 scholarship to Eton College, the Hasan school attended by Princes William and Harry. shows off his Hasan will rub shoulders with the elite scholarship when he begins studying at the world-famous letter Berkshire school next September. It comes after he became the youngest-ever speaker at a major political party conference when he addressed Labour Party delegates in August. Aged just 15, he was a year younger than the previous youngest speaker and former Conservative party leader, William Hague. Hasan won his Eton place after coming through a gruelling three-day assessment at the school, which included three entrance exams, seven interviews and a public debate. The Year 11 student was mentored throughout the application process by our Headteacher, Mr Hussain. Hasan, who has won an army of fans on Twitter for his outspoken political views, gave a rousing speech to the Labour conference at support I have received, particularly from my Marlborough College, and Martin Woodrow, the Liverpool Echo Arena.
