Meet Ximena Conde, Our Newest Second Century News Fellow Quick Links

Wisconsin Public Radio welcomes its newest Second Century News WPR Online Fellow, Ximena Conde (pictured). Donate Now

Conde, a graduate of Rutgers University, began her career as a producer at WisContext WFMT, Chicago's classical public radio station, and most recently worked NPR Online as a producer at Rhode Island Public Radio.

Listen Live to Ideas With an established passion for public radio, Conde is excited to develop her reporting skills in WPR's Milwaukee office. "Everyone at WPR is so Ideas Schedule talented and open to teaching me what they know," Conde said. "They've been quick to answer even my most basic questions, establishing open- Listen Live to NPR News door policies off the bat." & Music

NPR News & Music Created in 2016, the Second Century News Fellowship provides an Schedule opportunity for new and diverse journalists to gain practical experience in public media news production. "Our goal for the Fellowship is that the Fellow is fully qualified to join the WPR team by the end of their year," said Be Part of WPR's Online WPR Director Mike Crane. "And if we don't have an opening, then it is that Community they will have sufficient experience to secure a position anywhere in public radio."

That goal was achieved last year when Ross Terrell, the first Second Century News Fellow, completed his time at WPR and was quickly hired by WABE, Atlanta's NPR station. "The Fellowship gave me a start to my career that very few places offer and I wouldn't be the reporter I am now without it," said Terrell.

"We're really excited to have Ximena join WPR for this fellowship. She has a fascinating background, and her passion for public radio and the news will serve her well in the Second Century Fellowship," said Crane.

AROUND WISCONSIN WPR Presents... Our 2018 Events Schedule

Last year more than 6,000 Wisconsinites attended one of our centennial events. It's a new year and we're excited to share our "WPR Presents . . . " winter and spring events schedule with you. Not every show is on sale yet, but we hope you'll mark your calendars and plan to join us - and listeners from across the state - at one of these five shows:

Old Time Radio Drama Live in Wausau, Eau Claire and Mineral Point: WPR's Norman Gilliland hosts a family-friendly adaptation of Oscar Wilde's "The Canterville Ghost" with the 9XM Players. It's a night of comedy, period costumes, sound effects, music and more on February 9 at UW-Marathon County in Wausau (on sale now), on March 24 at the State Theater in Eau Claire presented by WESTconsin Credit Union, and on May 5 at the Mineral Point Opera House (both on sale soon.)

To the Best of Our Knowledge Live in Milwaukee: To the Best of Our Knowledge brings their award-winning national public radio show and podcast to Milwaukee's Turner Hall on April 19 for a night of conversation, stories, live music and more. Host Anne Strainchamps will be joined by a team of talented producers, performers and personalities with a few surprises up their sleeves. Get tickets from Turner Hall here.

Simply Folk Shindig 2018 near Wausau: After a sold-out centennial show last summer, WPR is taking Simply Folk on the road again for a special concert event featuring three great Wisconsin bands on June 7 at the Rothschild Pavilion near Wausau. Hosted by WPR's Dan Robinson, the show will be recorded for later statewide broadcast. Tickets will be on sale later this winter.

Snap Judgement Live in Milwaukee April 21

WPR is pleased to sponsor Snap Judgement Live at The Pabst Theater in Milwaukee on April 21. Glynn Washington (pictured) and the Snap Judgement team are bringing some of the nation's top storytellers to the stage, along with the show's house band, Belles Atlas.

Snap Judgement Live begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Pabst box office and online.
