(Boeing) On July 16, 1961, Minot Air Force Base, N.D., received its very first B-52H Stratofortress, nicknamed the Peace Persuader. The bomber was delivered directly from the Boeing factory in Wichita, Kansas and was accompanied by another backup B-52 in case of any complications. The name Peace Persuader originated from a “Name the Plane” contest held by the Air Force. Peace Persuader was assigned to the 4136th Strategic Wing under Strategic Air Command.
