Explanatory Notes

Outcome 04 (Percentage of Underprepared Students Who Satisfy a TSI Obligation) for Lamar State Colleges

The data for reporting to the LBB on Outcome 4 (Percentage of Underprepared Students Who Satisfy a TSI Obligation) are in the accompanying Excel file when clicking on the link above. The data mirrors that in the developmental education reports, with all institutions included in a single worksheet, not on separate pages. Institutions are shown in FICE Code order. If you have trouble locating your institution, just search for an appropriate word in Column A. The number to report to the LBB is in column K of the worksheet OutcomeMeasure18. The LBB provides only one space for reporting Measure 18 (as we understand it), rather than separate spaces for each of the three TSI areas. To devise a single value, we added the number of students below TSI in all three areas (reading, writing, and math) in Column A together to get the number in Column I. The total numbers of those students reported as meeting TSI in Column F were also summed and are shown in Column J. Column J is divided by Column I to get Column K, the percentage who satisfied the TSI obligation. This report is the first to include reporting for spring and summer 2009 from the new CBM002. In case it will be useful for making projections, we have included the 2007 cohort data for two years. Some institutions may notice that their FTIC and other data changed slightly from the numbers shown on the developmental education pages (http://www.txhighereddata.org/reports/performance/deved/ ). This was the result of incorporating the CBM00N updates. It meant that some students who were previously identified as FTIC was found to have been enrolled previously. Also, some students were determined to have attempted or met developmental education at other institutions once their data were linked using a valid SSN. In the future, the Coordinating Board will continue to use the cohort that was originally identified, even if SSN changes identified prior enrollments. The Legislative Budget Board has indicated that for the next reporting cycle they will use the revised Accountability developmental education measures (two years for passing DE and three years for passing the college-level course). At that time, institutions will report separately for each of the developmental education areas (math, reading, and writing).
