Rosemary Leaf Beetles. Gardeners keep an eye out for them. Hand picking off the plants is probably the best way to keep them under control. They originally come from the south Mediterranean and were first reported in this country in 1994. A combination of climate change and plant transportation has seen them spread. JM

WI Pampisford W.I. Garden Party Held at the Challis Garden, Sawston On Monday 16th June we met at 6.30pm for a variety of dishes for supper, as the weather was a little chilly we ate inside the newly refurbished and decorated downstairs garden room. Several members strolled around the garden after supper, and admired the colourful well cared for borders. Thanks to the Challis Garden committee for allowing us to use the garden. The plant sale raised £12, thanks to all who donated and bought plants. Our next meeting will be a visit to Newmarket Waitrose, please assemble in their car park at 6.30pm. This will be an open meeting. Don’t forget we will be holding our Coffee morning fund raiser, Saturday August 16th , Chapelfield Way, Sawston, at 10 am -12noon. Please bring family and friends

National AGM report from Leeds, held on Saturday June 7th Sarah represented our WI along with Duxford and Chesterford Group WI. The resolution to promote people to sign up to become Donors, this was voted through on a large majority. The message to take home was to encourage family members to discuss their wishes, so in event of a tragedy, organ donor’s wishes would be followed.

Old Ron’s Ramblings from the Allotment Gardening fills me with great expectations , but sometimes mother nature brings me down to earth with a bump For example my Garlic which overwintered brilliantly with rows of lush green leaves suddenly became covered with fungal rust . They looked dread- ful but after being harvested about 4 weeks ahead of time and then left to dry out on my shed roof they should store well , hopefully until the

new year . On the other hand the Peas are super sweet , Lettuce are full of heart and my Swift early Potatoes have proved to be really tasty. Talking of Swifts , Our Pampisford Swifts arrived a little bit later than usual this year but now our village church is being continu- ally circled by about 5 pairs of these beautiful birds as they re establish there nests under the Church slates or the smallest of gaps in the stonework .Hopefully given a good summer with lots of airborne in- sects and spiders to feed their young we will have more Swifts around our Church next year. The Parish Council have decided to introduce a new way of reporting the highlights of PC activity and news. Report byTony Orgee: (abridged) South Cambridge District Council. Cambridge City FC planning application: The planning application for a new 3,000 capacity stadium for Cambridge City to be sited north of the Dales Manor Business Park in Sawston was considered by the District Council’s Planning Committee on 4 June 2014. The three Sawston District Councillors supported the application. TO opposed the application citing in particular traffic implications for village and for the Pampisford junction. Planning Committee members supported the application. The decision was for delegated approval, with a number of issues, for example, ecology and access issues, still to be resolved. Proposed Solar Farm: Local councillors received a letter about a proposed Solar Farm on Green Belt land north of Dales Manor Business Park. The Public Consultation Event organised in relation to this proposal has been organised at The George in Babraham. The promoters of the scheme agreed to an additional Public Exhibition held in Sawston – at Spicer’s Sports Pavilion – on 17 June. Local Plan representation: At its meeting on 10 June, Sawston PC decided that it should be represented at the Examination in Public into the DC’s Plan. TO suggested that other parish councils had the same view regarding these two sites, and that Sawston Parish Council should contact these councils to present a united front. Tour de France update: The Tour de France is getting closer and it will cause delays and disruption. Further details are emerging about road closures. TO has specifically requested that the A1301 / A505 roundabout area remains open until 8am to enable access to and from Sawston and Pampisford. 9

SAWSTON MEDICAL PRACTICE - JULY 2014 The dispensary at the Health Centre has been particularly busy over the last few weeks and we apologise if you have encountered any delay in obtaining your prescriptions. The three successive bank holidays has meant that, on some days, not all prescriptions have been ready on time. Before and after each of these, there has been a significant increase in urgent requests; on some days, one dispenser would solely dispense urgent requests all day! We are working on a solution. The number of urgent requests over recent months has almost doubled on some days. With so many urgent requests for repeat medications we are finding that sometimes patients who have ordered their medication in good time find their medication is not ready. Over the coming months, we will be contacting patients who repeatedly request urgent repeat prescriptions to try and help them manage their medicines better. To help with this, please may we ask you to try to order your repeat medication when you have a week’s worth of medication left. This can be done in any of the following ways:  In person at the health centre – please put your request in the red box inside the door or, if we are closed, in the grey box out- side the gate.

 Online via our website – please obtain your secure logon details in person from main reception.

 At the village collection points – Duxford shop, Whittlesford Post Office, Ickleton shop, Thriplow shop, Abington shop.

 By fax – our fax number is 01223 836096

 By post to: Pharmacy, Sawston Medical Centre, London Road, Sawston CB22 3HU.

 If you collect from the health centre and are on regular monthly medications, why not sign up for our managed repeat service – please ask for more details at the pharmacy.

11

Please order your medication once each month, rather than single items several times. If your medication runs out at different times of the month, please send in a list of your medications, the number you have and the date you counted them and one of our pharmacists will then organise for your prescriptions to be lined up. When ordering medicines please only order what you need. The cost to the NHS of unused medicines is estimated at £300 million every year! Once they have left the pharmacy, they cannot be re-used and all returns have to be sent for incineration. Ideally, just have enough medication at home for the month ahead. Please do feel free to come and talk to us if you have any queries.

Tour de France 7th July – REMINDER – MAJOR ROAD CLOSURES We will be running our normal Rapid Access Clinic on that day for patients who require same day treatment for urgent issues. The pharmacy will be open as usual but please try not to pick up medication on that day. There will be no pre-bookable appointments for Doctors, Nurses or Phlebotomists. We will be unable to carry out routine home visits but if it is an emergency either a GP or the ambulance service will be able to attend. Our advice for the day is to call us in the first instance and we will be able to advise you on the best course of action.

We would love to receive your local news, group

updates, recipes, favourite walks, jokes, puzzles,

celebrations, family memories, photos or stories for inclusion in your Panser News. Many thanks.
