Early British Pottery RESUME OF THE PAST FIELD MEETINGS OF THE UNION, 1893-1905. Believing that members, who have recently joined the Union> will find some little interest in knowing where field meetings have been held in the past, and that old members will not be displeased to be reminded of what districts have been visited, this resume has been drawn up. The information contained in it will also be of some use in making future arrangements for visiting the varied surface of our wide county. On June 12th, 1893, the first Field meeting was held at MABLETHORPE — a great day for lovers of nature. Many county naturalists, and also neighbours from adjacent counties, lent their aid in making the opening day a success. The out- come was the formation of the Lincolnshire Naturalists' Union, as now constituted. The second meeting was held on August 7th, at WOOD- H.\LL SPA, and a goodly number of species were recorded. May 24th, 1894, found the members at LINCOLN. The bank of the Fossdyke and Hartsholme \^^ood were investigated, and a general meeting was held in the evening. The late John Cordeaux, M.B.O.U., was in the chair, and vacated it on the election of Mr.

  • Closure of Toftstead Primary School, Amber Hill
Report Reference: 1.0 Executive/Executive Councillor Open Report on behalf of Peter Duxbury, Executive Director - Children's Group Mrs P A Bradwell, Executive Councillor for Children's Report to: Services including Post 16 Education Date: 17 June 2010 Proposal to discontinue Toftstead Primary School, Subject: Amber Hill Decision Reference: 01741 Key decision? Yes Summary: This report seeks to advise the Executive Councillor on making a decision regarding the proposed closure of Toftstead Primary School, Amber Hill. This proposal is being made in the context of very low current and projected pupil numbers in the area leading to an irreversible deficit budget as well as serious concern over the quality of education the school is able to offer its pupils. Falling rolls have meant that the school has been unable to sustain the number of pupils necessary to generate a budget sufficient to maintain the standard of education all children deserve. The school, supported by the Local Authority school improvement partner (CfBT), have explored options to maintain the viability of the school including federation. The Governing Body requested that the Local Authority (LA), the decision maker, co-ordinate consultation on the future of Toftstead Primary School and subsequently the LA has consulted on the proposal to close the school in accordance with the Education and Inspections Act 2006 (EIA 2006) and the guidance of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), now the Department for Education (DfE). This proposal would address the issues surrounding a primary school population in decline in recent years with no sign of recovery, in an area where there are other appropriate schools in more densely populated areas which have sufficient capacity to accommodate displaced pupils.

  • The Rockingham Forest Connection
King’s Cliffe: The Rockingham Forest Connection (With acknowledgments to our sources: ‘Rockingham Forest Revisited’ by Dr Peter Hill; ‘The Royal Forests of Northants 1558 – 1714’ by P A J Pettit; and ‘The Royal Forests of England’ by J Charles Cox.) Some early history … The ancient woodlands of the Rockingham Forest area were once part of a great prehistoric forest which stretched from Peterborough to Oxford. Stone Age man settled in the area and neolithic remains have been found in places such as Gretton, Oundle, Twywell, Weldon, Wansford and Brigstock. Bronze Age finds include pottery at Oundle, Corby, Weldon and Wakerley; a skeleton and bronze dagger near Corby; several burial sites; and a drinking cup at Fotheringay. Iron Age people are known to have settled on three pieces of high ground in the area – at Rockingham, Wadenhoe and at Wakerley. Remains of iron smelting furnaces at Wakerley show that our ancestors were already making use of iron ore deposits. The smelting process needed a lot of heat and they made charcoal to fuel their furnaces. The Romans also made use of the iron ore deposits. Extensive iron smelting from the Roman period has been unearthed close to Bulwick and in Bedford Purlieu woods. Roman occupation was not just a temporary affair. They drove a road west from Ermine Street running from Wansford to the foot of the hill outside King’s Cliffe. They also built villas in the area. Tessellated pavements have been excavated near Deene, at Lowick and Weekley, and a villa and large mosaics was found in the grounds of Apethorpe Hall in 1859.

  • Questionnaire Analysis May 2017
Ab Kettleby Parish Neighbourhood Plan Questionnaire Analysis May 2017 OVERVIEW The Parish of Ab Kettleby has commenced the preparation of their Neighbourhood Plan. An important part of this inclusive process is, of course, obtaining the views and aspirations of the community. Key to this has been the development and dissemination of a community questionnaire. 93 The questionnaire contained 26 questions and is based on important themes established following initial RESPONSES consultation work by the Ab Kettleby Parish Council. These themes are: our parish; housing; parish facilities; education; environment & heritage; business; general comments. The survey took place in April 2017. It was available to complete electronically and as a paper copy. The level of response from the community was good, there being 93 responses. This represents a return from over 20% 40% of the adult population, (450 over the age of 18). OF Given that some households chose to respond HOUSEHOLDS collectively rather than as individuals; it is also pertinent to consider the number of responses in relation to the number of households in the Neighbourhood Plan area. The number of responses represents over 40% of the 229 households. This demonstrates the high level of commitment to the 20% Neighbourhood Plan by the small community and, in turn, adds strength to the validity of the collected views OF ADULT expressed. RESIDENTS Population data taken from 2011 Census Page | 1 Responses were received from each of the four settlements within the Ab Kettleby parish as well as non parish resident stakeholders. Non Parish Residents/Stakeholders were a property owner, the Vicar of Ab Kettleby, Holwell and Wartnaby, a person who used to live at Holwell and the treasurer of the Melton Mowbray & District Scout camp site.
