Work Experience

August – October 2020 USGS Ecologist Internship USGS, Bay Area

• Worked with the principal Research Ecologist to gather leaf spectra data using a field spectrometer. Then processed, analyzed, and plotted spectra data using PRISM and R Studio scripts. • Developed stand-alone python scripts using primarily arcpy. The stand-alone scripts analyzed any two temporal data sets of NLCD land cover raster data sets (2001 - 2016 data sets only) and determined the type of land cover change that occurred. • Developed ModelBuilder tools and script tools in ArcGIS Pro 2.6.1 to analyze land cover percent change for 250 meter buffered Botanical Information and Ecology Network plots. • Created a USGS Internship report that showed the fieldwork I completed, products/program scripts I developed, and the goals I achieved. • My skills in ecology research fieldwork, ArcGIS Pro mapping and analyses, R Studio script development, and climate science research were greatly increased by this internship.

May 2016 – June 2018 Teach For America – Corp Member Teach For America, New Mexico

• Taught 7th, 8th, & 9th grade Math and 8th & 9th grade Science to Native Students at the DEAP School. • Obtained an ArcGIS Online account for the school, then taught students how to interact and create visual maps that focused on their community/school. • Collaborated and brainstormed with staff members on effective ways teach Native students and offer extra curricular opportunities. • Assisted and lead students in DEAP's first ever Science Fair, then took participants to the Navajo Nation Science Fair and had one student place second in the 8th grade division.

Jun 2015 (2-week internship) Division of Natural Resources Intern Navajo Nation Capital

• Assisted division staff with tasks to organize local fair, such as contacting suppliers, copying documents & filing them, and reviewing purchase items. • Improved the division’s Wordpress website and helped teach the Public Relations staff on how to navigate the editing features of the website. • Worked with Public Relations staff member on press releases to post on website.

• Completed UNM EMS Academy EMT-Basic course, being the top student, and also successfully passed NM State EMT-B exam and National Registry EMT-B exam on initial attempts. • Pre-hospital emergency medicine health care provider for ambulatory emergency calls, occasionally being the only licensed provider on scene and during transportation, or until the arrival of other advanced pre-hospital care providers. • Communicated effectively with patients, family members, co-workers, and other public service personnel; with occasional presentations on situational awareness and education about EMS equipment/ to the public. • Qualified in advanced techniques such as placement of Combi-Tubes; administer of medication via IM, SQ, or Nebulizer; or use of specialized equipment such as PAST and traction splints.

• Worked with Microsoft Office programs and communicated with coworkers through emails, radios and phones. • Executed control of emergency situations such as bomb threats, power outages, violent employees and medical emergencies. • Politely greeted guests, visitors, employees, and handled/ transferred incoming phone calls to respective departments or personnel. • Conducted interior and exterior patrols of building such as checking doors, equipment, employees, surrounding areas of buildings, and monitoring of CCTV and alarm system for any possible threats. • Properly disposed company sensitive information and recorded important activities, incidents, or actions on daily reports.

Jan 2004 – Dec 2005 Airborne Ranger Heavy Weapons Gunner U.S. Army, Ft. Benning, GA

• Served under stressful conditions, as a member of the 3rd Battalion of the 75th Ranger Regiment unit consisting of 30 - 40 persons. • Certified in military tactical first aid and first responder training consisting of trauma identification and victim stabilization. • Served two deployments to Operation Enduring Freedom of Afghanistan as part of a Special Forces Task Unit. • Operated and maintained sophisticated equipment and vehicles designed for tactical operations.

Jun 2008 – Jul 2008 Residential Advisor/ Mentor GEAR UP, South Dakota

• Enthusiastically advised and mentored high school students on access, and success in rigorous college preparatory curriculum. • Instructed and monitored computer class, teaching basic concepts of Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. • Supervised and interacted with students during study halls, trips, and extracurricular activities. • Collaborated with staff to help increase the number of low-income Native American students for preparation into higher education institutions.

Extracurricular/Volunteer Projects

Aug – Dec 2008 BiblioTrucka/ Naaltsoos Chidii (Mobile Library Concept) Arizona State University, AZ

• BiblioTrucka/ Naaltsoos Chidii is a food-truck themed mobile library concept formulated by two other ASU students and me. The project concept was to be a cost-effective, culturally-reflective, mobile library looking to serve communities and schools lacking basic library resources. • Major contributions to project included: website development, 3-D design & layout, data research, and public presentations. • Media features of the concept project included PBS Horizonte program, ASU News, The Clinton Global Initiative University, and The State Press.

May 2014 – Present Red Ink International Journal Tempe, AZ

• Red Ink International Journal is a publication that was started at the University of Arizona as Red Ink Magazine. I was contacted by ASU Regents Professor Simon Ortiz to help with the formation and transition of the publication to the community of Tempe and ASU. • Responsible for submitting and creating non-profit documents such as Articles of Incorporation, 501(c)3 application process, and other agency documents required of non-profit organizations.

July 2014 Navajo Nation Primary Candidate Debate Tempe, AZ

• Worked with other students from the Native American Business Organization at ASU to bring all the primary candidates for the 2014 Navajo Nation Presidential Primary Election to have a debate at ASU. Primarily in charge of the logistics and also vital in coordinating with staff from ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law to make the event successful.
